 WELCOME TO MY DAY

Well folks...I now have TWO replacement front teeth, one an implant , and can smile rather better than I can chew, but anything is better than being GAPPY!!..
And have had my right eye surgically reinvented with a new technique which removes cataracts and astigmatism in one less-than-an-hour procedure!

Also, since the last, far-distant-in-the-past-update, we sold our pharmacy , and I now face reinventing myself as a retiree
Which leaves me with NO excuse not to get these pages updated while learning to use some more modern web-design techniques. I'll fix all the links that no longer work, write up some new trivia questions, locate some great new jokes and articles and start listening for new midis! So watch this space!
And I've discovered quite another claim to fame!!...
Seems I am a BBW!!!

BUT CLICK ON THE BANNER TO SHARE MY DAYS AND WEEKS WITH ME...

And HEY! You're WELCOME!!

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE MAILBAG

.....or check out the OVER FIFTIES FORUM.
You'll meet lots of of NICE, (MATURE) PEOPLE to write to!

OVER FIFTIES FORUM

I have been reading and enjoying Jane Fraser's thought on life and living for many years..we are kindred spirits, I think, ESPECIALLY when she finds good reason for people my age to drink a glass of red a day, and in this zany article, she describes the upsides and downsides of the ageing process "Your secrets are safe with your friends" she reports, "because they can't remember them, either"..
Read Jane's comment, Withering On The Wine..., to decide if YOU can empathise!!

Life Begins At...

And there's always food for thought in THIS area:
In fact, with a view to trimming this site, I've just reread all these pages, and there is such a wealth of GREAT writing in this section that I think it had better be my first reorganized area!
Which means FRAMES, I guess.. (yuck!!)
Maggie Alderson is one of my FAVOURITE columnists.
Usually, she is writing about fashion, which interests me less and less these days, but every so often she comments on something to do with life and living..and I ALWAYS seem to find myself agreeing with her.!!
In this article, About A Boy, she writes of the incredible metamorphosis from monosyllabic teenage hulk to suavely eloquent young Adonais, a transformation whose anticipation I recall only too well in my own family circle!!
Read About A Boy, >, and see if you can empathise. I can!!!

(and if you like this one, go back and read Spot The Difference , where she described the corresponding change in teenage girls, from Ugly Duckling to Swan.
Since my own eldest grandduaghter was demonstrating Maggie's theory in a spectacular way, I used my own family pictures to illustrate it.. as I have this week, too. They'll kill me of course!

THE GENERATION GAP

And that vow, FOR BETTER OR WORSE.. has been the subject of debate since the Garden Of Eden:

I don't often venture my OWN writings here these days, but I've been married almost 44 years now and figure I can venture an opinion or two from time to time....
Most of the time, of course, I am fiercely biting my tongue.. ..

Read The Man Who Invented Weight Loss and see if you can honestly say you CAN'T relate to ANY of it!!

FOR BETTER OR WORSE

...And you'll want to keep up to date with what :

What people are saying

Hilary McPhee is a sometime student of mine, and I am glad to see her doing so well!
Her weekly " What Matters" column is always a joy to read, and this one, centering on the "illegal immigrants' debate, is timely, tasteful, constructive and thought-provoking!....oh, and beautifully written!!

Read her article, Just Like Grains Of Sand On A Beach , and email me what YOU think!! !!!!..

Once, the phone was in the hallway and the fridge was in the kitchen.
They never met,
writes John Weldon, in The Age.
I'm sure there are plenty of sensible reasons why we need fridges with built-in computers, mobile phones that can take photographs, and the internet-based technology to link the two, but I can't think of any. It's bad enough that we're chained to them (computers and phones that is, not fridges) all day, without having them follow us home and into the kitchen, until recently the one digital-free zone left in the house. , he says.

Read I Can Send A Photo From My Phone To My Bridge. But Why?, and see if you can relate to what he says..

This Cyberlife

Well, I've been home since mid--April, year 2000, and feeling ever more restless, with the need to get more material for the Travel-Diary section as good an excuse as any for leaving again !!....
So, if you haven't shared my past wanderings with me, and my rather outspoken comments..do it now, before I go to take another look!
Who knows...I MIGHT change my mind about some of the things I said LAST time!!

TRAVELS WITH A LAPTOP

Lots of pictures and wry observations there, folks, and I promise to tell ALMOST all!

AND NOW...IT MUST BE TIME FOR A BREAK.. A MIDI-BREAK!

Oh dear..mea culpa about updating this page..
BUT, forgive me, for I have located another midi of the kind I like so much..slow and sensual piano!!!

This gives me goosebumps, remembering what might have been!!
But that is another story, of course!!

Take 4.34 minutes' time-out to enjoy this version of I Wish You Love with me, and think on love and all that!!

THE RIGHT BOOK FOR THE RIGHT PURPOSE AT THE RIGHT TIME!

BUT IF BARGAIN BOOKS ARE MORE YOUR THING, YOU CAN'T GO PAST AN AUSTRALIAN FAMILY FIRM I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR YEARS....

I used to buy books from Clouston and Hall's monthly catalogue back when I was still a school librarian and the buying method consisted of selecting titles from the catalogue, circling the corresponding numbers, and then reading them out over the phone on the tollfree number...
Later, when I set up the book department in our pharmacy/giftshop, I used the fax machine instead of the phone....
And now, Clouston and Hall have a new webpage!...

Check out their site if you are looking for remainders selected by people who really LOVE their books and who can write knowledgeably, and with humour about the titles in their extensive list!
