It was Trocchia who originated the idea of an adult community music association in the Greater Vermilion area. For several years he conducted a community band elsewhere, all the while not understanding why the Vermilion area didn’t have such adult groups of its own. He knew at one time adult bands and choral organizations had flourished in the Vermilion area. One band's members were all Veterans of the Spanish American War, and the band was named THE ARMY OF THE GRAND REPUBLIC BAND. To say the band died out is both figural and literal, and indeed most unfortunate. There had even existed a Civil War era band called THE SILVER CORNET BAND in nearby Axtel, but that was very long ago. There also once was a Vermilion adult chorus and even a men's glee club, called THE VERMILIONAIRES, too. All this community music performance in Vermilion's past, but nothing in its' present, was more than Greg could endure. So, with the concept of a new Vermilion Community Music Association in hand, Trocchia put some ideas together and consulted with area music teachers. It took some time, but after some groundwork, much planning, and many, many phone calls, he announced an organizational meeting. The rest is history.
