WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?
Some of the greatest questions
that challenge the thinking of men have to do with things spiritual. If
a man die shall he live again? What then shall I do with Jesus? What shall
a man give in exchange for his soul? But no question is of greater importance
than, What must I do to be saved? Are you concerned? Would you like to
know how the Lord would answer that question?
Three times such a question
is found in The Acts of the Apostles. (1) Those who believed as a result
of that first gospel sermon in Jerusalem, Men and brethren what shall we
do?--Acts 2:37. (2) Saul of Tarsus asked Jesus, Lord what wilt thou have
me to do?--Acts 9:6. (3) The jailer asked Paul and Silas, Sirs what must
I do to be saved?--Acts 16:30.
A study of the context
shows that three different answers were given. (1) Belivers were told:
Repent and be bapitized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins--Acts
2:38. (2) Saul, now a penitent believer, arose and was baptized--Acts 9:18,
for he had been told , arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins--Acts
22:16. (3) The unbeliever was told, Believe on the Lord and thou shalt
be saved. Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and he was baptized,
he and all his house straightway--Acts 16:31-33.
