1885 Early Life
1885 Born Nov.11th in Budapest Hungary as Maria Kempner to Ida van Gunther (maiden name) and a Hungarian military officer.
c.1885 - 1908 Her mother remarries a Swiss citizen. Maria attends school in Zurich.
1909 - 1913 Studies voice with Irene Schlemmer-Ambros at the Imperial Academy for music in Vienna.
1914-1925 Munich National Theater
1913 Bruno Walter discovers her, and she debuts as Mimi.
Sings Queen of the Night in the Mozart-Wagner Festival.
1916 Sings Zerbinetta in the revised Ariadne auf Naxos. The performance is praised by the composer, Richard Strauss).
1917 Creates role of Ighino in Palestrina (Pfitzner).
1920's Studies under Hanny Schoener in Munich.
1921 Marries Karl Erb, a famous tenor.
1922 - 1923 Sings with the Chicago Opera Company, including singing Rosina and Frau Fluth) in New York.
1924 Very sucessful 1st visit to Covent Gardens
1925 - 1934 Berlin Staedtische (later Staatsoper) oper
1925 Sings Zerlina from Don Giovanni in the Salzburg Festival
1928Took a years absence from singing after her sister's death
1930 Sang in Nozze di Figaro and in Don Giovanni with Furtwaengler conducting.
