Lonliness
Devin told me he was lonely.
I didn't know what it was to feel empty.
He tried to explain,
but I never understood.
He said he wanted me around
because he needed company.
I laughed saying today was no different from yesterday
and that I had things to do.
I had a life to live.
I didn't help him.
He soon got sick
His only symptom seemed to be apathy
He lacked motivation
He ceased to function.
He eventually wasted away.
I took his companionship for
granted.
Then he was gone
and I finally understood what it was
to be lonely.
