"LIMBERG"

After considerable debate, it has now been ascertained that the LIMBERG, a French owned Supertanker, WAS the subject of a terrorist attack, off the coast of Yemen in October 2002, not far from where the U.S.S. COLE had been also attacked 2 years previously.

The Limberg was one of 10 tankers owned by Euronav. The ship had left Bahrain on 22nd September 2002 with 56,000 tons of crude oil on board and was planning to load a further 140,000 tons in Yemen. From Yemen it was due to sail to Malaysia.

It was an attack claimed by Al-Qaeda and was achieved by a small boat, packed with explosives on a suicide mission, hitting the starboard side.
