        Ranma 1/2
        Magic class 101...
By Shadow Dancer of BWG productions

Prologue Encounter

'Well,' I thought, 'Time to get back to the daily grind.' I seemed to be
saying that a lot recently... I haven't been away from work for ages. "I also
don't have any girlfriends to go out with, either." I noted. My name is Ishtay
Mnangnara. I am 18, a visionary, and I talk to myself. 'A very poor visionary
at that.' I commented. I also have a habit of listening to when I'm writing
about myself, and responding in any way I choose.
Today's version of the daily grind is school... not your average
workplace... but then I'm not your average person. My friends tell me that I'm
totally wierd, for that matter.
I'm a student at Onoway High... and today will probably be the most wierd
of all of my days. Today is the day I reach majority.
Not majority in human terms... majority in magic terms.
Although I'm totally unaware of this at this point in time.
I'm dressed in my standard coloration when going to school, purple. Purple
everything... and as I rush out my door to get to the bus, I fail to notice the
faint purple coloration shimmering around the edges. I rush through the door
without a second thought, or a first one for that matter. I suddenly notice
that I'm falling.
I never watch where I'm going.
This happens to be a bad failing, especially when I run through a
shimmering purple gateway into thin air. Thin air somewhere far away from my
home, I guess... that's all I get to think about, before I hit bottom.
     Wham!
Or was it Sploosh? I can't remember.
What I do remember is being dressed for winter, running out the door in the
morning, and then landing in water at, by the sun, 4 in the afternoon. I swim
up to the surface, discarding my heavy winter coat in the process. Now I
remember, it _was_ sploosh. Thats when my life changed, again.
I looked up to find a long bamboo pole sticking out of the pool I was in...
and at the top of the pole was a shimmering purple gateway. The same one I had
just fallen through.
     It was closing.
     I was in trouble.
Then I noticed a man looking at me, I recognized him from somewhere. From
one of those TV shows I watched daily. Then it hit me.
     Jusenkyou.
I frantically looked at myself to see what I changed into. Nothing. Then
I listened to the guide.
"Oh! Good sir, you fall in Nyannichuan, spring of drowned girl. Very
tragic story of a girl that drowned here one thousand, five hundred year ago.
Now whoever fall in spring take body of young girl." long pause while he looks
at me, "Um, sir? why you not girl?"
I look back at myself. Sure enough, I'm still not a girl. I think,'Maybe
he got the pool name wrong? I surely hope so...' Seeing that I haven't
changed, I dive back down for my coat. When I come back up, the guide is still
shocked.
"Young sir? Wh.. why pool not work on you?"
     "I don't know," I joked, "maybee I'm immune to the pool's magic?" I giggled
furiously, "Or maybe I can't be touched by Jusenkyou water until something
happens to me? Or maybe you were wrong about the pool, hmm?"
"Maybe, young sir, I go check, be right back."
I shrugged, then crawled out of the pool. Then I noticed it.
     My coat.
     It was wet.
     And I wasn't.
As this was very confusing at the moment, I decided to take the easy way
out. I fainted.

Chapter 1 confusion

I guess getting shocked isn't normal for anyone, my head was still ringing.
I decided to get some information before I panicked again. I looked at the
guide. I realized my first question. "How come I can understand you?"
The guide looked puzzled, "you talking Japanese, I talking Japanese, why
shouldn't you understand me?"
I frowned,"I'm not speaking Japanese, I'm speaking english." The guide
looked puzzled. "I don't knw how I got here... I was supposed to be in school by
now." The guide is loooking at me like I'm crazy. "Okay, last thing I remember
before appearing here was getting ready for school." The guide nodded. "Then I
rushed out the door, into thin air. are you telling me that this is normal?" The
guide nodded."How so?"
The guide thought for a second, then responded, "You walk through magic
portal, not impossible. You thinking about Jusenkyou while you getting ready
for school?" I nodded, "Good, then you one to open portal to begin wih. How old
you?"
I thought, 'this guy's kooky, but I'll go along with it for now.' Out loud,
I said, "I'm 18 years old, about to be 19 in two weeks." A habit I have, when
I'm nervous, is to think of a large staff, appearing out of nothing.... imagine
my suprise when the guide looked at the staff as well.
"Uh, sir? Please you put staff away, it focus magic too, too well, might
even open another portal if you not careful." I shrugged, then tried to imagine
the staff disappearing.
     The staff stayed put.
"What's the harm in a single, small staff?" I asked.
The guide, still looking nervous, "Staff focus magic, once, if not careful,
will obliterate someone or something. Please put staff away? I not want to be
obliterated."
I shuddered, "Sorry, I don't know how to, I don't even know how I brought
it to be in the first place... I'm sorry." I was shivering, I didn't want to
obliterate anyone, no matter how infuriating.
The guide seemed to see my problem, and mentioned, "Maybe you take staff,
open portal to somewhere else, say where someone you love is."
"What if I don't know where that person is?"
"That not problem, think of opening gate that facing person, never miss
that way."
     I thought,'who do I love? I don't know... Chris? Nah, she's pretty, but
would never think of me like that. I've thought about Ranma for a while....' I
started, the staff had disappeared! in it's place was a glowing purple dorway,
like the one I had come through before.
"That very good sir, but remember, be very careful what you think from now
on, It might cause problems, or might even get burned out of you, which you may
or may not want. Bye sir!"
I nodded and stepped through the doorway, into mass confusion.

Chapter 2

Through the doorway I stepped, into a lunch-hall. I noticed her
immediately, being confronted by a guy, who seemed to be asking if he could sit
with her. I could tell that her response was very cold, I could feel it from
where I was.
Nervous again. Another staff at my side. I grabbed on to it for support.
I tried to make myself more confident, and walked up to her. She glanced
at me, and then glared. I could feel the anger. I steeled myself and asked her
a small question.
"If you wanted anything I might be able to give, no matter how large, what
would it be?"
Ranma looked startled for a second, and then resumed her glare, "If you
could change me back into a guy, for even one minuite, I might let you live for
that comment."
I sighed, and then held my staff towards her, doing what felt right for her
request. "Grab the staff, and don't be suprised if it hurts a little." She
slowly grabbed onto the staff.
A shock flew through me. From how Ranma looked, one went through her, as
well. Then IT happened. My staff disappeared. Everything went black.
Time lengthened, seconds felt like hours. Exactly sixty of them. Then I
could see again. Ranma was sittting across the table from me, silently crying.
I asked, "What's wrong? I didn't hurt you, did I?" Ranma shook her head.
"Then what's the matter?"
Ranma smiled, "You gave me something perfect, something that I could never
repay." Ranma bowed to me, "What did you want from me?"
I started,'this wasn't supposed to happen, I just wanted to make her happy'
out loud, "I despise seeing pain where there should be none. It was my
pleasure."
Ranma looked startled, "What would I have to give you to get more?" Though
she looked startled, she sounded very suspicious.
I sighed, "That that worked is even a miracle, I am not sure that I could
do it again. But should I manage to, would you consider training me in your
art?" I was hopeful,'maybe I can get some lessons so that I can be able to
defend myself in school. I hope I can do this again, for her, if not for the
lessons.'
"How do I contact you for the lessons? I don't know where you live."
I thought about this,'If I tell her where I live, she might think I'm
crazy. I don't know.' I thought about the staff again, but a small one, like a
wand. suprisingly, one appeared in my hand. Then I knew. I handed the wand to
Ranma, "Hold on to this, it is like a calling card for me. Think of me, and I
will come. I don't know how long it will take me to get to where you are, but I
will come." Ranma looked suprised, then took the wand.
"What else can this do? Will it turn me into a frog?" I shook my head.
"Then it just does what you said?" I nodded, "how long will it last?"
I shrugged, "I don't know. this is my first day being able to do ANY
magic, so anything I do will probably not last long. I don't know if I can even
get home."
"Where do you live? I didn't see you here before."
"You wouldn't have, I live in Canada. Don't look so suprised. I barely
know how I even got here." Now Ranma was _really_ startled, "Yes, I see, you
want to know how I got here? Last place I was at was Jusnkyou. I had that
staff I just used up, and I created a doorway to here. Other than that, I don't
know."
Ranma's voice was barely a whisper, "You don't know how you even got here?
What will you do if you can't get home?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know. I'll cross that bridge if I get to
it. It's hard being a girl all the time now, right?" Ranma nodded,"I hope you
can find a cure for yourself."
"I hope so, too. Well, I Have to go, It's time to go home. I'll see you
at dawn, tomorrow, okay?"
I think for a second, 'Well, If I can find out how long until tomorrow
dawn, then I can be here at the right time.' I nod.
Ranma gets up, "I assume you know my name, but I'll tell you anyways. My
name is Ranma Saotome. What's yours?"
I think, 'What harm in a name? sure, ' out loud, I state, "My name is
Ishtay Mnangnara, pleased to meet you. I hope we can be friends."
Ranma nodded, "I hope we can be friends, too." Ranma got up from the
table, and headed towards the women's dorm. I sighed. In my mind I formed the
staff, one last time, and pictured my home. The gateway opened, and I stepped
through. I was late for the bus, but it didn't matter. I was going to meet
Ranma in a few hours, better to get some sleep. I never even looked at the
clock. I didn't even know how long I was gone. I missed the calendar, as well.
Better, in some ways that I had. It was going to be a _LONG_ night.

Chapter 3 (UN)Bedecked

I woke up early, for me. I woke up very annoyed. You wouldn't blame me.
"Ishtay!!! Time to get up!!!" My father can be very loud at certain times
of the day, and this was one of them.
     "G'way..." I moaned.
"Do you know how long we were WAITING for you?" Loud my father may be, but
this persistance he usually saved for when something REALLY bad happened.
"No, I don't..." I grumbled, "As far as I know, I was gone for only two or
three hours." I started getting ready to fall asleep again.
"Since when did 'two or three hours' EVER turn into an ENTIRE WEEK?!?!"
That got my attention, "An entire week? Holy shit! I never thought
instant travel would take so long." I started giggling, "Cool! Now I have a
way to get out of writing quizzes!" I calmed down, a bit, "Truthfully, Dad,
how long was I gone?"
"Like I said," He toned his voice down, "an entire week." I got nervous
and looked at my calendar, sure enough, another week of days were crossed off
the sheet.
It suddenly wasn't a laughing matter anymore, "Cripes... I thought it was
only two or three hours, that's all it felt like," All of a sudden I felt
this strong tugging on my right arm.
Well, it was more than tugging, really.
Now that I think about it, I believe I flew three feet to the door of my
room.
"Help!" I croaked as I flew through a portal that wasn't there a few
seconds ago.
Can't a guy get five minuites of sleep?

Chapter 4 Bedazzled

Flying is really a comfortable experience.
     Sometimes.
Make that, only when you can control the flight in some way.
     This wasn't a good flight.
I only hoped that Ranma wouldn't get too mad at me for being late. I
only had a few seconds of shut-eye before Dad woke me up and Ranma called
me.
I don't get it. It was only supposed to give a small tug when she
thought of me.
     Then I remembered.
     My name.
     Oh, shit.
Another thing then occured to me.
"Hey Ranma, I hope you know that you got me out of bed with your
little call there." She probably noticed. How can you NOT notice pyjamas
decorated with little purple cats.
Ranma was bug-eyed. I wondered why. Then I looked on my chest.
"Hi Tammy." My cat seems to have come along for the ride.
     Ranma.
     Cat.
     Trouble.
"Hey Ranma, think we can reschedule for another time? I'd like to get
my cat home before anything bad happens." I was panicking, Ranma was
PANICKING. I hoped I could get Tammy home soon.
I concentrated. Nothing happened. I thought of a staff. Nothing
happened. Then I remembered.
Ranma summoned me. I can't go back till I do what she wants.
She can't tell me what she wants until Tammy's out of her sight.
     Full circle.
Good thing that Tammy's trained better than any dog I know.
"Tammy? Please go explore around for a while, Ranma and I need to
talk for a bit." Tammy listens very well, but she takes her sweet time
doing what she is asked. It took her five minuites to walk around the
corner of the school.
It was only five meters away.
"Ranma, could you please tell me what you want?" I was getting
nervous, standing outside in only kitty pajamas.
"Well, could you please get some good clothes on? Those look king of
ridiculous on you." Before I could even start to think of the staff, I was
dressed in my normal school outfit. "Well, that'll do, for now. Could you
do that thingy for me again? but make it last longer this time, say, half
an hour?"
I shrugged, "I can try, just don't expect any miracles this time." I
was still astonished that I didn't even have to think about the clothes.
Then I remembered a question I was holding in for the past minuite, "How
long has it been since I last saw you?"
     Ranma shrugged, "Three days, why?"
I sighed, "Because, as far as I'm concerned, I saw you last, five
minuites ago." Ranma's eyes threatened to pop out of her head. "It's
true! Oh, well. Might as well get this over with." I envisioned the
staff. This time it appeared properly. I held the staff out to Ranma.
"Hold it tightly this time. I don't want any mistaked that could endanger
either of our lives."
     Ranma grabbed the staff.
     We felt a shock.
     Then IT happened.
     Everything went black, again.
     This time I knew why.
It's not often that you change into a girl in front of your own eyes.

Chapter 5 Bewildered

     I'm a girl.
Of all the possible effects of granting a wish to someone, that would
have been the last one to pop into my mind.
     I'm a girl.
I'm a girl and I don't know how to reverse it.
At least Ranma will be happy for a while.
I slowly regained consciousness. I looked at Ranma. Sure enough, he
was a boy.
"You okay?" Ranma surely LOOKED concerned.
I hoped that I could survive this. I nodded. Ranma looked relieved.
"Okay, think you can gain some endurance? It looks like you could use
some." I nodded, then a thought struck me. (WHAM!!!:)
I looked at him, "Ranma, do you mind if I changed something about your
memory?" Ranma looked suspicious, "There's something I want to ask you,
first, before I do this. Ranma, did you say my name out loud?" Ranma
looked puzzled, then he nodded. "Damn, I would like to erase my name from
your memory, that may be why I was yanked from my house instead of the
small tug that it should have been."
Ranma looked suprised, "Erase your name? Will I forget all about
you?" I shrugged. "You said that you were yanked here?" I nodded. "Well,
how can we tell that this was from me saying your name?"
"Do you still have the wand?" Ranma nodded, "Then think my name, and,
say something you want. We'll see from there."
Ranma closed his eyes and took out the wand. The wand blinked. I
felt a pulse. Nothing else visible happened.
Ranma opened his eyes, "Did you feel anything?" I nodded. "Well, we'll
see in half an hour if what I wanted comes true."
     I shuddered.
What could he possibly have wished for?
Something told me that I didn't want to know.
