Subject: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Date: September, 1997

I was graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in this year (1997)
with a first class honour Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree. I have also
been awarded as the Best Student of Biochemistry and Microbiology 1997,
together with two other awards, i.e. the Best Project and the Best Thesis
of my major (Biochemistry and Microbiology). The title for my final year
research project was 'Partial Purification and Characterization of A Cyclic
AMP Binding Protein In Rhizopus oryzae'.

I have strong interest in both the fields of biochemistry and computer
science. During the course of my study in the University, I have spend most
of my free times learning computer and its programming languages. I have
registered for two courses of computer programming (i.e. Pascal and
FORTRAN) and I managed to get high scores on both of the courses. I was
planning to take up more courses in that field, however, there was always
crashes in my timetable.

Since I finished my final examinations for the last semesters, that was in
the early May, I have been working as a Technical Supervisor helping my
employer to set up a new Internet Cafe in Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur. I
am in charge of the installation, configuration and maintenance of the
networking system (Windows NT) in the Cafe. I am also taking
responsibilities in producing some software (in C++) for the usage of the
Cafe.

I am now consider myself as a programmer cum system administrator. At
present, I am also involve in producing some course materials for the
teaching of elementary Internet in the Cafe.

Although I am interested in computers and Internet, I am still looking
forward in getting an opportunity where I can practice my knowledge of
biochemistry at the same time as well. I am now looking for the opportunity
in an area where both the fields merge. I am ready to further my studies to
a higher level, if there is such opportunity.

For me, the ideal topic of research for my post-graduate study would be
something like "The Application of Information Technology in
Biochemical/Biotechnological Research". I hope that there are professors or
lecturers who would also be interested in such a field of research.

Honestly speaking, I myself have less interest in those biochemical lab
works, although I have done it well enough. I am much interested in doing
the analytical works for those results produced from the lab works. This is
especially true when computers are needed for those works. This is where I
planned to extend my studies.

I hope that you would be able to help me on searching for such an
opportunity mentioned above. Feel free to forward this e-mail to whoever
that you think it is suitable.

Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

Yours sincerely,
Lai Kam Leong (Sept 1997)
