VIII. Armor

The armor on the SDR-14 is a low-mass lunarium tungsten composite plating that is the standard for most Terran mecha. Aside from the good protection provided against projectiles, missiles, and other kinetic weapons, this armor is also resistant to plasma globes (annihilation discs), lasers, and fair against, particle guns too, owing to the fact that the armor can flake off and evaporate in layers under fire from such high-energy weapons, taking much of the weapon's energy and converting it into the latent heat of sublimation in the armor. The armor stops all small arms fire, and has good resistance to all weapons commonly mounted on combat mecha.

The Razor provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure cockpit environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for three days maximum.

IX. Development

Developed by Three Star Heavy Industries in 2048 alongside the SDR-14, the Razor features many of the same electronic systems as the Tiger and both are immensely powerful area defense mecha. Tested at the same time as its sister, the Tiger, the Razor performed well during testing and was immediately adopted by the RDF Marines, Space Marines, and Army in 2050. Featuring medium range artillery fire this weapon filled the gap between the Tiger and the Atma.

The main job of the Razor is to provide medium range anti-air suppression fire and destroy airborne targets before they become a threat to the other destroids. To accomplish this the Razor mounts on each arm a pair of high powered laser cannons capable of firing at targets up to 70 km away. Each cannon is powered by the reactor some ammo is not a concern, a nice feature when the Marduk appeared with their seemingly endless stream of mecha.  To provide a close range alternative as the laser cannons can be unwieldy in close in situations, the Razor mounts a pair of 60mm autocannons.  To assist in the destruction of targets at medium range, the Razor also has three medium range missile launchers mounted on its hip. Each launcher carries two missiles for a total of six. Additionally the Razor mounts a large missile launcher system which holds either 28 Dirk or Dagger missiles depending on the version of the ADR-14.

Serving alongside its sister the SDR-14 Tiger, the ADR-14 Razor served extremely well. While many generals called for the retirement of projectile weapons after the Third Robotech War the ADR-14 proved them wrong proving that projectile weapons are still capable of destroying their targets with deadly efficiency and accuracy. During the Transient War of 2057 a team of Razor where on advanced recon patrol when they were ambushed by battloid of battle pods. With the nearest mecha at least thirty kilometers away the Razor's would have to fend for themselves until reinforcements could arrive. Banding under the leadership of Lt John Allen Getchel III, the Razors carried the day and destroyed the entire battalion while losing only two of six mecha. This proved the ability of the Razor to overcome the odds and carry a battle. This was again tested in 4th Robotech War during which time and again Razors where outnumbered and delayed the hostile Marduk forces long enough most of the time for their teammates to escape, however they were often times defeated on the ground by the more powerful Marduk power armor which could out maneuver most ground mecha.

Like the SDR-14 the Razor continued to see service until 2070 when it was replaced by the ADR-20.
