11: Farewell the Ultimate Men! The Clash of Light and Darkness
Up on the conservatory, Megumi holds her kodachi, thinking about ending her miserable existence. The battle between Kenshin and Aoshi continues. Aoshi’s kodachi is small, its advantage against Kenshin’s sakabatou. Kenshin evened out the odds by holding the blade and he got him. Aoshi recovered and used Juusenkenbou, the Battlesword Dance and the Spinning sword dance on Kenshin, slashing him three times on his chest. Kenshin used the hilt of his sword to take the best of the kodachi’s thrust. The next time Aoshi used the same technique, Kenshin knocked him unconscious by a blow to his throat. Kenshin regained his composure and they were heading for Megumi, but Aoshi’s men came, the leader standing up in front. He wanted to be the most powerful, but he was defeated by Kenshin. Aoshi demanded that he be killed by the victor, but Kenshin refused even if it meant fighting him again. The moment was interrupted by Takeda and his new gattling gun. He started shooting and Megumi heard them and she thought no one would survive. Aoshi was shot in his legs when he saved Hannya. Takeda continued his attack while Aoshi’s men tried, one by one, to save their master. Hannya was the only one left, and he asked Kenshin to go with his plan. Kenshin got his sword, but all of Aoshi’s men were dead, and the gun was pointed to his direction. Kenshin ran towards him with lightning speed, dodging the bullets. Takeda’s gun stopped with the spike that Beshimi shot, and with this, Kenshin reversed his sakabatou and sliced the handle of the gun. Takeda begged for mercy but Kenshin slashed him with the dull end of his sword. They proceeded to find Megumi. Aoshi was left downstairs, his only family dead. His anguished cry fills the empty house… Sano got there just in time to snatch the blade out of Megumi’s hands, and he shook her to her senses. Now Megumi is going to study under Dr. Genzai to be a doctor, and she’s a part of their family as well. In the deep of the forest lay the graves of the men of the Oniwabanshu. Aoshi walks away, swearing to take revenge.
12: The Birth of a Junior Samurai! First Disciple, Yahiko's Battle
Yahiko was practicing when he fell down and his slippers jerked off. A young girl passing by picked up Yahiko’s torn slipper and fixed it for him. Later, the gang went to the restaurant. They saw Yahiko’s newly fixed slippers tucked inside his kimono and they started teasing him. Yahiko responded by gobbling up his bowl of rice. A girl came to bring them more tea and Yahiko spit the rice in Sano’s face, surprised to see the girl again. Tae introduced Tsubami as the new staff. When Tsubami went to fetch a bucket of water, Yahiko followed to help her and to thank her for fixing his slippers. This earned him a new nickname from Tsubami, Yahiko-chan… Kaoru, Kenshin, and Sano were all snooping on Yahiko’s affairs. When Tsubami was heading back, a group of men, led by Mikio, blocked her way. She was being forced to be an accomplice to the robbery that the group was planning. They were using Tsubami to get the mold of the key. Yahiko came to do right but in the end he got beaten. Kenshin stopped Kaoru’s plan to help the boy so he could learn to fight by himself. Because of Yahiko’s defeat, he strived and practiced more to face them again when the robbery happened that night. Kenshin gave him a tip, a technique used by the samurai when outnumbered, but there was no margin for error on this one, you can’t lose. That night, Mikio and his associates came by. Yahiko was already there to take them on. He used the tip that Kenshin gave him. It was going well, until the guys pulled out their kodachis. Up on the roof were Kenshin and Sano, with looks that could kill, staring at Yahiko’s opponents, like legendary heroes against the full moon. The enemies ran away, scared of Yahiko’s unseen allies, but Mikio stayed to fight the boy. Mikio slashed Yahiko’s arm, but the latter emerged as the winner in the end. He saw the two guys on the roof, who immediately hid and pretended to be owls, Kenshin hanging on Sano’s leg. Tsubami thanked Yahiko-chan, Frowning, Yahiko rants about his new name.
13: You Can Do It ! Toramaru's Dosukoi Journey
Kaoru, Kenshin, and Yahiko just finished shopping when they encountered Sinuyama, the country’s famous Sumo wrestler. The huge man was entertaining a fan when Toramaru ran out of the store, unable to pay. Because of this, Sinuyama beat the poor guy. Kaoru tried to stop them, but was slapped instead, and Yahiko pushed Kenshin, with his heavy parcels, jerking off the guys around Sinuyama. Heading home, the three found Toramaru intending to jump off the bridge. Kaoru tried to stop him but they both got wet in the 6-inch deep water. Kaoru invited him to stay at the dojo, and he actually loved Kaoru’s cooking. She also volunteered to train him, learning about his situation, being harassed by Sinuyama to run away from the stable. The three guys imagined Kaoru wearing a loincloth and got whacked a few times. In their training, Toramaru had to be pinched to follow orders, and this made his resolve stronger, with the little girls cheering beside him too. They trained at the shrine, and Sinuyama’s men came, having heard of the news of Toramaru’s continued training. Kaoru handled the fight, while Toramaru led the kids to a safe place. A stone monument was going to crush Kaoru but Toramaru just pushed it away. The girls were about to be crushed by another block of stone, when Kenshin arrived just in time to slash the rock. A match was made between Toramaru and Sinuyama. Toramaru was flexible and agile, his advantage to win, and he did. Oyakada, the head of the Hamakaze stable watched the fight and understood why the famous wrestler harassed the new kid, because he knew that Toramaru had potential. Sinuyama didn’t want to be replaced so he drove him away while his skills weren’t that sharp yet. All ended well. Toramaru is back at the stable training with the help of his former harasser. He even came to the dojo one day to give two huge bags of rice, to repay Kaoru’s help. Kenshin went to take them, but it was too heavy, so he fell down, his eyes swirling. Everyone is happy, except maybe for a dizzy Kenshin.
14: To Save a Small Life! Challenge. Doctor Megumi
Dr. Genzai slipped a disc in his back, so Kaoru and Yahiko volunteered to go to the clinic to help Megumi with the patients. Kaoru was suffocating her patient with bandages wrapped around his whole head. Then, Sano and his friends came in to seek help for their friend, Ryu, who has been stabbed. Megumi immediately treated Ryu. She stitched his wounds through the night. She was very tired when it was through, and Sano put a blanket over her. The next day, Megumi and Yahiko were heading home from treating Kaede-chan, when a man suddenly dropped to the ground, writhing in pain. Megumi checked him. He wasn’t sick so she just walked away. A gang harassed her to treat the man. Then a shaman named Raiko claimed that his spells could do wonders. He treated the man with his chanting and his miracle water. That night the gang, with Raiko, was celebrating over the success of the show they had put up earlier. Their plan was to discredit Megumi as well as the other doctors so they could rule this town. The next day, people doubted Megumi’s capabilities. Sano’s friend heard about how expensive it was to be treated by Raiko. They also talked about the gang, the Hishi Manji who was worse than the Yakuza. Sano immediately stood up to help Megumi. Meanwhile, Megumi was going to Kaede-chan’s for her regular visit when the Hishi Manji and Raiko took away the girl to be “cured”. Megumi did everything to stop them, but to no avail. Yahiko helped by following them. Raiko was chanting over Kaede-chan when Megumi and a panting Yahiko arrived to reveal the shaman’s scam. The Hishi Manji arrived to keep them silent, but Sano took every one of them down. Sano sensed a bomb and covered the occupants. The leader of the Hishi Manji arrived with a cannon, but Kenshin came and fought them all. In the end, Megumi had Raiko admit his farce and gave her placebo to the fake, watch out for fox ears! She was also treating the wounded Hishi Manji, and Sano got a little jealous. At the clinic, Dr. Genzai is well and back to work, but everyone is asking for Megumi. Meanwhile Sano’s got it, and it can’t be cured.
15: The Operation Starts, The Terrorist Group Jinpuu Tai!
The gang was happily enjoying Megumi’s baked sweet potatoes. Megumi told Kenshin that Kaoru only has eyes for Kenshin. This got Sano laughing hard. Then, Sano’s teacher came because his student was sick. Megumi checked him, while Sano patronized her attitude. Megumi passed instructions to Kaoru and Kenshin. Kikamatsu got better when Megumi finished treating him. Kenshin found the teacher’s face familiar. Sano told them that he was a samurai, but now he finances an academy that teaches the village children to read and write for free. The Jinputai needs an assassin for their next target, and they know just where to look. Kenshin and Yahiko were heading home, when they saw the teacher working in the field. One of the Jinputai, Toma Suzuki, attacked him, to test his skills, and the teacher fought back. Kenshin now remembers the teacher’s identity. He is Heihachiro Sasaki and they fought ten years ago. They were both assassins, and after their battle, they left respecting each other. His technique is Shiden no Tachi. That evening, Sano was walking, with a jug of sake hanging from his shoulder. He saw the Jinputai talking to his teacher. He listened and found out that they were asking Sasaki to go back to wielding the sword, but Sasaki declined. The next day Sano rushed out, just as Dr. Genzai’s got home from picking herbs. At the academy, Sasaki caught a knife shot at the direction of his student. He found Toma outside, and the Jinputai leader blackmailed him into doing what they wanted. Sano arrived at the school and Kikamatsu told him where Toma took the teacher. Sano arrived at Shinagawa in time to stop the teacher from using the sword again. Kenshin arrived too, and a fight ensued between him and Toma. An awesome fight, interrupted by police whistles. Kenshin and Heihachiro got acquainted, as the battousai in Edo. It has been ten years, and both assassins chose a life of peace, away from the dark past they left behind.
16: Take a Pledge! The Hidden Sword Technique, Shiden No Tachi!
Kenshin was doing his chores while thinking about his fight with Toma, who was secretly watching him. He sensed his presence and went out. Sano and Heihachiro arrived looking for Kenshin, but he wasn’t there. Kenshin went out into the woods to confront Toma, who has just learned about his legendary identity. He was there to talk to Toma about his corrupt views of using the sword to change the world, not to fight. Toma’s men arrived when he was about to use his special attack on Kenshin. They left just as the gang found Kenshin. Heihachiro told them that Toma was the toughest student he had. Toma was just living out what he had taught him and he claims full responsibility of his misguided ways, and he is set to kill him, but Sano fiercely objected. Meanwhile, the politician who hired the Jinputai was drinking with his corrupt colleagues in celebration for Yamagata’s imminent assassination. His plan was to eliminate the Jinputai once he was in power. Yahiko went to talk to Kenshin, but he wasn’t in his room. Sano and Heihachiro felt the Jinputai’s presence. They went out front and the men rushed into the dojo. At the party, Defense Minister Yamagata was preparing to leave when Mr. Hashizumi, the employer of the Jinputai, sent him his regards for a safe journey. Toma waits at the riverbank for their target as he vows never to be like Kenshin and his sensei. Sano and Heihachiro fought the men and set out to find the rest. Yamagata’s carriage is drawing near, and the Jinputai were ready to pounce on their unknowing prey. They blocked the carriage, but it was Kenshin who stepped out instead of Yamagata. He tried to tell Toma, that their boss was using them, but the man wouldn’t listen. The Jinputai were just attacking when Sano and Heihachiro arrived. Toma attacked with his new technique, but Kenshin won in the end. His technique was really an old one, called Ninno tachi and Kenshin already knew the style. The police came to clean up the mess, and Hashizumi was also arrested, while denying his acquaintance with the Jinputai. Toma tried to kill himself when he realized that Kenshin was right, but his Sensei stopped him. It was time to face the punishment, and not escape by suicide. Sano narrated the events to Kaoru and Yahiko at the dojo. Everything’s back to normal, the dojo’s in its warlike atmosphere as usual, and Sasaki’s academy is at peace.
17: to Your Dream. The Adventure of Marimo the Flying Bullet
Kenshin took Kaoru, Yahiko and the girls to Sumidagawa to see the Ebisu circus. After much bickering, they went in the haunted house. After that, they went to see Marimo, the human cannonball. A man was riled up from the attention that Marimo has been getting. What with the longest lines of people going there, it was nipping at his business. The show began. Marimo was very pretty and Yahiko blushed. She put on a great performance and everyone liked the show, except Sumidaya who just came in to stop the fun. He blackmailed Marimo’s father Jiro, into paying the debt he owed by the next midnight else there’ll be no more gigs. His assistant tried to burn the tent, but the performers stopped it, including Yahiko, so he got acquainted with Marimo. That evening Jiro was robbed while walking with Marimo. He ran after the thief, but got buried under planks of wood. Yahiko was walking around when heard a scream and went to Marimo’s rescue. He brought her father to Dr. Genzai’s clinic, where Megumi attended to his injuries. Despite his wounds, Jiro still insisted on performing. Marimo decided to continue the show on her own because they needed the money, but Jiro won’t allow it. Then, Megumi offered to help with the mixture of the gunpowder. Sumidaya had plans so they couldn’t perform. Yahiko was ushering the people into the show when the gang spotted him. He told them of the situation just as Marimo went out and told him that the gunpowder was gone. Kenshin told Yahiko where to look, and the kids ran off. Kaoru volunteered to help Marimo so she tugged the guys along with her own show until they got back. Kenshin was on a large ball, while Sano ran away, still tied to the wooden wall, bleeding, after Kaoru threw a knife beside his temple. Two men from the audience kept complaining. Yahiko and Marimo were on their way back, gunpowder in hand, when Sumidaya demanded for the bags. They managed to escape and ran away. The audience was really complaining, when they rushed inside with Sumidaya and his thugs behind. Kenshin fought the thugs with just an umbrella. Sumidaya was running away. Marimo landed on Sumidaya from the cannon and the police came to arrest the lowlifes. Marimo invited them to be part of the show, but Kenshin and Sano fled before Kaoru could practice knife throwing again.
18: Run! Yahiko, Bring The Sakabatou Back!
Yahiko fought a bully at the restaurant and Gohei happened to pass by and saw the spectacle. Gohei gritted his teeth at the memory of Kenshin. Yahiko was reading a book when Kaoru handed him his wooden sword. Yahiko didn’t seem to mind that he’d left it lying around the dojo but Kaoru lectured him about taking care of it. Yahiko insisted that bamboo swords were for kids and that he should be using a real sword by now. He then bragged about his heroism at the restaurant, with a tad of exaggeration. Kaoru argued about the sword, until they were at each other’s necks again. Gohei was talking to a man as they walked up the excruciatingly long flight of stairs to the shrine. There, he met the Onasaki brothers, while his hands and feet hung by invisible wires. He hired these men to kill Kenshin, with the money from his real estate business. Yahiko continues to practice kendou, inspired by the book he had been reading. So engrossed was he that his chores were left undone. Kaoru gave him instructions before she left, expecting a clean hot bath when she came back. Kenshin decided to do it after he went shopping so the boy could continue practice. Yahiko was scrubbing the floors, all the while muttering about injustice and ingratitude for a swordsman like him. Gohei came to bait him. He was deliberately fuelling Yahiko’s insecurity from using just a bamboo sword. Yahiko promised to bring Kenshin’s sword to the dilapidated shrine in the outskirts, where his fight with Gohei will resume. He took Kenshin’s sakabatou without permission and Kenshin knew it, but didn’t pay attention. Yahiko hurried to prove himself, but he found the Onasaki brothers, and next he was unconscious. Kaoru got back to the dojo, greeted by a dagger with a note at the door. It was from Gohei, informing them of Yahiko’s condition. Kenshin accepted responsibility and headed out for Kikiyu riverbank into the trap. Yahiko was gagged and tied up. He was crying for his own sheer stupidity of falling into Gohei’s seine. He freed himself, using the splintered wood to cut the ropes. His wrists bled from the cuts, but he didn’t care for he had to be there for Kenshin before sundown. He ran for Kenshin’s life, carrying the sakabatou. He escaped the police who were chasing him by jumping into the river. Kenshin was caught by the invisible wires and Kaoru tried to help, but without success. Yahiko finally arrived, and Gohei fought him. Yahiko gave him a forceful kick in his balls, then threw Kenshin’s sword, and the fight was over. Yahiko admitted his mistake and cried in Kenshin’s kimono.
19: Raijuuta's Desire. Vision of a Forbidden Empire
The whole gang was on vacation to Izu and Dr. Genzai’s sister welcomed them. She mentioned a master, and the gang was curious. She appeased their curiosity by pointing to the land down below, which belonged to the master of the mansion, Tsukayama Yutaro, since he was five. The gang was overwhelmed by the vastness of the land that belonged to the young lad. Once inside, they saw Yutaro reprimanding his servant with his incompetence in finding a swordsman to teach him kendou. He then welcomed the gang into his home. Dr. Genzai’s sister boasted of Kenshin’s swordsmanship, but Yutaro wasn’t impressed. Yahiko gritted his teeth at the boy’s arrogance. He jumped on him and tried to ward off his insolence, but Kaoru threw him at the closed door. She talked to Yutaro about the right way of treating people, but the boy was so overbearing. He ordered them to get out, and Sano made a mocking bow. Yutaro was riding ahead of his teacher, angered by the way his guests had treated him. His mount tripped over and he landed on the ground. He was kidnapped. His servant ran off to find help. A man came to save him. Yutaro was awed by his skills, it was like his father’s. Kenshin stopped the man from killing. Yutaro asked for the man’s name. It was Sakido Raijuuta. He decided then and there that he was going to be his sensei. Yutaro introduced him to the household. Raijuuta threw Yutaro’s wooden sword into the fire and gave him a real sword. The gang had fun during their vacation. At the hot spring, Sano and Yahiko tried to peep into Kaoru and Megumi, but were caught and splashed with water. Kaoru asked about the mansion and, Dr. Genzai’s sister reported that Raijuuta and his men of the Shinko Ryuu virtually took over running the place. Kenshin was thinking about the man’s identity when he abruptly stood up at the mention of Shinko Ryuu. He went to tell Kaoru that Yutaro was in danger, not realizing that he was barely covered. Yutaro was out on the cliff practicing, and Kenshin found him. Not long after, Raijuuta and his men arrived, sending Yutaro home to discuss an important proposal to Kenshin - to join in building a new country here at Izu. It was sheer madness to Kenshin. The men decided to kill him for refusing, and he dutifully fought. Yutaro was watching in awe of Kenshin behind a rock. He was knocked off-balance by a sword and fell into the sea. Raijuuta didn’t mind that his loyal student was about to die. Kenshin’s sword knocked out of his hands, he tries to defend himself, fury slowly building up.
20: Shinko Ryuu's Revived! Show of Evil, Ultimate Killing Technique!
Kenshin recovered, his wrath consuming him as Battousai resurface. He easily defeated the men, then jumped off the cliff to rescue Yutaro. Raijuuta is sure of Battousai’s death in the strong currents. Kaoru was outside, worried about Kenshin. Megumi saw him carrying Yutaro, both men soaked to the skin. Kenshin put Yutaro into Megumi’s care and Sano and Yahiko came immediately, asking for details. At the mansion, more and more samurais gather to join Raijuuta’s army. Kenshin explained the events to the gang, while tending his injuries. He’s set on talking Raijuuta out of it, but his friends are also set on coming along. However, they all laughed when it was Yahiko’s turn to pledge his support. They were eating Hannah’s snacks when Yutaro came out. He arrogantly thanked Kenshin so much it didn’t sound real, and planned to go back. Yahiko stopped him, and challenged him to fight before he could return to Raijuuta. Yahiko beat him easily, yet Yutaro won’t admit defeat. Kaoru offered to teach him kendou, and he vowed to beat Yahiko after three days. His training began. He showed such determination that he got better in no time. Meanwhile, Raijuuta assure his men of their restored pride with the war they were to wage, while the police stand by for attack. The gang was by the river, enjoying their grilled fish. Yutaro felt strange, for he had experienced his series of firsts with them. He then humbly thanked Kenshin, for saving his life, yet he declared that he’d still return to Raijuuta. Ayame-chan and Suzume-chan went with him to fetch the bamboo sword for tomorrow’s match with Yahiko. Kenshin and the rest are bothered by his unwavering support for the con man in his mansion. Chief Police Muraki was waiting at Hannah’s home when Yutaro and the girls found him. He needed to discuss something with Kenshin, and he also mentioned trouble at the mansion. Raijuuta had just received word about the police surrounding the place. He was delighted to have the battle come early. Yahiko had interrupted Kenshin and Chief Muraki’s chat, with news of Yutaro’s disappearance. After hearing of Chief Muraki’s mention of the mansion’s condition, they pretty much knew where the boy was headed. The police have already breached into the mansion. The gang arrived in time to see Raijuuta’s attack. Bloodshed had already begun. Still, Yutaro continues to run toward his home, blindly bent on saving Raijuuta.
