ANOTHER TRIBUTE TO ZX SPECTRUM ...

A Swedish gateway to ZX SPECTRUM

BACKGROUND...

ALMOST ALL PUBLISHED GAMES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE WEB AS WELL AS LOADS OF EMULATORS FOR DIFFERENT COMPUTERS AND PLATFORMS (+ AN AMAZINGLY ACTIVE NEWSGROUP). YOU CAN VIRTUALLY PLAY ALL THE GAMES THAT WERE RELEASED FOR ZX SPECTRUM FOR FREE (THAT OF COURSE INCLUDES THE SWEDISH GAMES THAT I'VE INCLUDED HERE) !

Special thanks goes to NVG ( Netverksgruppa of the University of Trondheim, Norway) and Arnt Gulbrandsen since...It wasn't really until 1994-ish (when the FTP site NVG was brought to life and the newsgroup comp.sys.sinclair was formed) that the Spectrum emulation scene set off big time.

SWEDISH SINCLAIR MAGAZINES

There were quite a few Swedish home computer magazines but non entirely focused on sinclair computers and most of them had a very short life span. The most eager ZX Spectrum writer in Swedish magazines were as far as I remeber Clas Kristiansson (aka Attle Barktunga) that also wrote a few Swedish quilled adventures. As well as worked as a ZX Spectrum editor on the JOYSTICK cassette magazine.

Two big ones covering ZX Spectrum:

"Allt om hemdatorer" and "Svenska hemdator nytt/hacking" (site by Clas Kristiansson)

Two of the last "computer magazines" covering ZX Spectrum in Sweden were YOUR HACKER, letter magazine by "DATAPIRATERNA"" and JOYSTICK, cassette/letter magazine that covered quite a few different computers with Jan Törnqvist as "klubbmästare".

English ones were available such as Sinclair Users and Your Sinclair.

SWEDISH SPECTRUM SOFTWARE HOUSES

I cannot recall that there were any commercial Swedish ZX Spectrum games released on broad base by any software house in Sweden. However a few adventures were developped under a software label called XCELLENT SOFTWARE (GOLDWOOD, GIZE, DE VISES STEN, Herrgården, Knäckebröhult as well as THE ARTIST).

XCellent was the software label for AB Datorer & Son owned by Bo Jangeborg, Clas Kristiansson and some other people. It's now called Softwave AB and is entirely owned by Bo Jangeborg.

FAMOUS SWEDISH SPECTRUM PROGRAMMERS

The most and probably only famous Swedish ZX Spectrum programmer was Bo Jangeborg with games like Fairlight I and II as well as The Artist. His Fairlight game made it to the number 1 spot on the UK game sales list.

MADE IN SWEDEN

The adventures/games below are all well done and written by Swedes (mainly taken from JOYSTICK cassettes) and you can download and play them using a ZX Spectrum emulator.
