On April 17, 2000, approximately 1030 central standard time, a Cessna TU206F single engine airplane, N59143, was destroyed upon impact with terrain while in cruise flight near Nevaj, Guatemala. The airline transport rated pilot and the six passengers aboard the airplane were fatally injured. The airplane was owned and operated by Wings of Hope, Inc., of Chesterfield, Missouri. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the humanitarian relief flight for which a company VFR flight plan was filed. The flight departed from the village of Mayalan, in the Province of Quiche, at 0930 local, with Huehuetenango as its intended destination. The wreckage of the airplane was located 48 hours after the accident in a remote mountainous region of the country, at an estimated elevation of 9,750 feet msl.
