Diving St. Croix and Las Vegas.

I just returned from a week in Las Vegas. I spent the first 20
days of January diving in St. Croix, USVI. These two places are
about as opposite from each other as any two places can possibly
be. But I really like them both.

While the surrounding desert and hills (like Red Rock Canyon)
have some natural beauty, the Las Vegas "strip" is about as far
removed from the "natural environment" as you can imagine.
Vegas is the distilled, concentrated essence of glitzy glitter
and decadence. People drinking and gambling around the clock.
I love it.

But I love St. Croix even more. There, I stay in rather simple
housing surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, picking lime,
papaya, and other tropical fruit from the trees. And diving on
little known but good-to-great dive sites, with just a few other
divers.

I plan to return to both places; but now back from Vegas, it is
time to start making plans for the next trip to St. Croix. Read
my web page: if you think that you might be interested in joining
me there in January, let me know.
