View From North Baker Hill 4/98
The road in the foreground runs down from the Cavalla Hill Methodist Church (just out of the picture on the right) heading north to connect to Manjack Rd. The towns in the distance are St. John's and Sweeney's.
The Houses at Lookout 3/98
The Brown and Root houses at Lookout were just about to be finished according to the schedule when we last visited. All in all they were close but obviously not going to make it. This view looking west shows about ½ the houses with more located on the other side of the hill. The proposed Caricom Village houses will be located over the ridge and south of these houses.
The View from the Houses at Lookout 3/98
Looking southeast, this is the view of some of the houses. As you can see, the houses are relatively close together but they are designed to have private outside areas! Also visible is what will be a little bit of entrance walk or driveway for each house.
Just About Complete 3/98
All painted and near complete this is one of the house designs. There is another house that does not have the verandah.
The Petrol Tanks, Carrs Bay 4/98
Taken from the parking lot at the new Victor's Supermarket in Sweeney's, this view looking west of Carr's Bay shows the new tanks for storage of petroleum. From the main road into Carr's Bay, the tanks are nicely hidden by their location behind trees.
Entrance to Little Bay 4/98
Looking south to Carr's Bay, one of the fishermen is cleaning his catch. Note the new road! The new road from Carr's Bay to Little Bay is the smoothest and widest road on the island. On the ridge in the background to the left in the picture you can just make out the "temporary" buildings in Brades being constructed to house the Government of Montserrat's offices.
How Sad, Little Bay 4/98
Unfortunately, if you are a first time visitor to Montserrrat, you get off the ferry, you go up a hill before leaving Little Bay, and the very first new view you get of Montserrat by car is that of the Dump. It's supposed to be closed now and moved to the Jackboy Hill area, but it's still quite visible. The Dump at Little Bay. How sad.
Romeo's Hardware, Carr's Bay 4/98
Just south of the cemetary, the Romeo's have relocated their hardware store on the main road in Carr's Bay.
The "Temporary" Government Headquarters, Brades 4/98
At the northernmost tip of Brades, overlooking Carr's Bay and Little Bay, the new "temporary" buildings are going up to house all of the departments of government now spread out in whatever locations they could find available, mostly private houses, throughout the north.
Government Headquarters- the Long View 4/98
Taken from the road connecting Cavalla Hill with Manjack Road, you see the location of the government buildings on the coastline. To the left and more inland is the new M.S. Osborne Ltd. Lumber and hardware store.
