ALTOS DE CHAVON

Dominican Republic

From Altos de Chavon, a glimpse of the mystic Chavon River. This is the view offered by some of the four restaurants of Hotel Casa de Campo located here. The other four retaurants of the Hotel offer these views.

SOME ALTOS DE CHAVON FACTS
Nestled up on the wild bluffs above the Chavon River sits the village of Altos de Chavon. Recreated in the early 1980's by Roberto Copa, then a set designer for Gulf and Western's Colombia Pictures, Altos transports one back to Europe in the 16th century with it's cobblestone streets, narrow winding footpaths and a 5,000 seat outside amphitheater. A national monument, and home of the Altos de Chavon School of Design, which is associated with New York City's Parson's School of Design.

THE RESTAURANTS OF ALTOS DE CHAVON

LA PIAZZETTA
an experience not to be missed
From the garden behind the restaurant comes fresh Italian herbs, lettuces and eggplants, from the kitchen a menu that spans the traditional to the modern in Italian cooking and an antipasto bar featuring over thirty five different selections each night with many varieties of Italian breads, cheeses, and Italian cured meats. The pastas are homemade, the carpaccios impeccably fresh, and the service swift and knowledgeable. Enjoy the chef's tiramisu with a steaming cup of cappuccino while the musicians thread their unobtrusive way between the tables playing their mandolins and violins

EL SOMBRERO
a taste of Mexico
Tucked around the corner from the Church of St. Stanislaus in Altos de Chavon lies a little piece of Mexico. Colorfully decorated with serapes, sombreros, puppets, Aztec weavings and other folkloricos, the Mexican cantina atmosphere is nicely recreated. Welcomed with a shot of tequila, you pass our "antojitos" bar, where a variety of typical appetizers are prepared to order. A night in El Sombrero is carefree and delicious, painted in brilliant wild colors, accented with mariachi music and tequila.

CAFE DEL SOL
Old World Charm
Cafe del Sol offers you a gentle retreat, a place to relax as you shop and see the sights of Altos de Chavon. Enjoy an authentic Italian style pizza baked in our wood burning oven. The pizza kitchen is placed in the restaurant so you can observe the preparation of your pizza and see it bubble inside the oven as it bakes. The choices are many and the crusts are thin and crispy. For those who choose not to select pizza, we are sure one of the salads, an antipasto plate, or one of the fantastic ice cream confections piled cool and high will hit the spot.

CASA DEL RIO
The finest restaurant in the Caribbean
Cantilevered out over the bluffs high above the Chavon River sits Casa del Rio.The cuisine offered here is extremely contemporary, with the chef capturing the essence of what is Caribbean, mixing it with a palette of ethnic ingredients and fusing together a menu that respects your health while overwhelming you with one sensational tasting dish after another. This is Casa del Rio, Casa de Campo's epicurean restaurant, where the fashionable and the famous dine when visiting the resort. The pleasures of it's tables are for all to enjoy and you are invited to do so.
