MMS Semel, MMS Perfetua : Once MMS, Forever MMS

The Metropolitan Mountaineering Society is a non-stock, non-profit SEC registered corporation established to promote mountaineering and other outdoor related activities in the Philippines. Its vision is to shape the world's mind for the conservation of nature.

From a membership of six when it started in 1994, it has grown to an 80-member organization today. The majority of the members are young professionals from various fields of specialization and walks of life. There are also a number of students while others are businessman. All members pass through a comprehensive Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) for four months conducted by professionally trained members of the organization. Training and lectures include, but are not limited to, preparing for a climb, backpacking and trekking, camp management, first aid basics, map reading and orienteering, rappelling and rock climbing and swimming. All applicants are required to finish four training climbs before being inducted to the organization. Privileges of a member includes participation in various activities that the organization calendars every year. Apart from climbing mountains, other activities of the organization includes out-reach and immersion programs with mountain inhabitants, medical missions and relief operations, tree planting, clean up drives, caving, advance outdoor training, environmental seminars, island camping and snorkeling, personality development seminars, local travels sport fests and parties. In addition, members are honed to become leaders, effective communicators, artist, marketers and  entrepreneurs by becoming officers and committee chairs, writing books, and articles, publishing and maintaining a webpage, leading climbs, selling novelty items designed and produced by the organization to finance projects and improvising and marketing outdoor products. The organization also prides itself in maintaining healthy fit, and drug-free members who are men and women for others and nature.

The organization dreams of heightening the consciousness of Filipinos about the natural beauty of the Philippines and about the sad condition of its environment today. It started instilling awareness in its membership and never stops to aspire in enjoyning like-minded people who commit to influence and change the prevailing misuse of Philippine natural wealth by business entities and uninformed mountaineers, tourist and settlers.
