Tom Wopat

* There is an article on the article page "Weathering the Hazzards" that is (mostly) about him.*

Birthdate: September 9, 1951
Birthplace: Lodi, Wisconsion
Height: 6'

Basic Info:

Ever since the third grade he knew he was a natural born preformer, with no idea what he rally wanted to do but sing. He was the middle child of eight. When he was fourteen he began to study voice and he later enrolled in univeristy majoring in music. He travelled for two years with a rock band, then went back to univeristy for a short time. He tried out for an opera and they told him with like five or more years of training he could do second or third leads, he declined and went on to Broadway. He did work with the Barn Theatre in Augusta Michigan, with whom he still does musicals.  He moved to New York and preformed in a number of sucessful shows. He was in several commericals and a two day role on the soap opera "One Life To Live"

Dukes Of Hazzard:

The role of Luke Duke was a hard one to find just the right actor for. Amoung those who tried out were Lorenzo Lamas, Gerlad McRaney (I could not see him as Luke Duke, though I liked him on Simon&Simon, but he just seems a little too old) and Dennis Quaid who would only take the job if his wife could be Daisy (no comment :)).Tom was the last to audtion for the role, and was the last of the orginal cast to be hired. So as he tried out they knew they had found "Luke Duke" there was just some kind of instant karma thing, or something like that. I find this quote to be funny, it really shows how just perfect everything was (and how "the boys" were friends from the first second), I got this from the Duke book that is out and it is said by John: "Actually, I first met Tom in the bathroom. I was in there , and in walks another pair of boots, belonging to a guy carrying a guitar and he goes into the next stall. We started talking about music, and we hit it off right away. After he did the audition we stayed up that night, singing and passing the guitar back and forth. Once he showed up, the producers knew the show was going to happen." I think that is so cool, because they were friends before they even knew they'd be working together.
