Alien Encounters of the Third Kind

by SaRa

Author's note: This story is set at the top secret government base in Nevada near Groom Lake that is called Area 51. Instead of getting sent to Korea, well, when the story begins, it will be explained. Any terms I use will be defined for those who don't know (or care) much about encounters with aliens and such. One last note: the timeline is a bit messed up, in this story. Thanks for reading and I hope I don't lose you at any point in this story!! --SaRa

Chapter One: Welcome to the Inexistent Area 51

They had all gotten their draft notices. Their country needed them. However, once they got to Groom Lake, Nevada, they were confused. It was 1950 and anyone would think that they were going to Korea to help save the lives of soldiers. They stood in a small group and in whispered voices asked if anyone knew why they were here, in the middle of a desert. Then, Trapper told everyone what he knew.

"This is some sort of top secret government installation...I've done some scouting and found out that we won't be able to tell anyone what we see or do here. It's about as bad as the war in Korea, too. What I mean by that is there's shooting here as well."

"Why?" asked Hawkeye.

"Didn't you see the sign at the entrance? It states that 'use of deadly force is authorized' if anyone is caught trespassing," spoke up Margaret.

"Wow...this must be really hush-hush then," said Henry.

After several minutes of silence, the plain white bus that would take them into this top secret area showed up. On the bus, they listened to the people who had been working at this place discuss the unusual goings on. Once they got off the bus, they formed a tight group and discussed what they had heard.

"It's called Area 51," Hawkeye said.

"It has to do with aliens...I heard someone mention having a 'close encounter of the third kind' every day...anyone know what that means?" put in Henry.

"I heard that an encounter of the first kind means that someone sees a flying saucer sort of thing in the sky," Trapper said.

"Well, I heard that an encounter of the second kind means that some evidence of a flying saucer sort of thing's - or UFO, I heard someone refer to it as - visit is left," said Frank.

"That doesn't tell us what an encounter of the third kind is, though," pointed out Margaret.

They had to go to the main office first. Don Jacobson, the man who was in charge began to brief them on what was expected and what would happen if they disobeyed anything.

"This is top secret and you're not to speak of this to anyone. Area 51 does not exist. You'll encounter certain terms while working here. The most important ones are encounters of the first, second, and third kind. First kind is a flying saucer was seen. Second kind is evidence of an extraterrestrial's visit was left behind. The third kind is when the extraterrestrial was actually seen. When we collect bodies of extraterrestrials - or ET's - you people will be in charge of autopsies and experiments that will be done on them. The consequence for speaking of this place or your work here could be death. It isn't in all cases, but some. Understood?"

They nodded. Jacobson handed them papers that they were to sign. The papers basically took away any rights of theirs. Frank Burns asked what would happen if they did not sign the papers.

"That is a good question. Here's the answer: you'll be sent over to Korea to work there at a MASH unit. If you don't want to work here, just don't sign," replied Jacobson.

There were three people who wouldn't sign. Henry Blake was one. The other two were Walter O'Reilly and Maxwell Klinger who had been silent ever since arriving in this place. They would be sent to Korea to work at the 4077th MASH. Hawkeye Pierce, Margaret Houlihan, Trapper McIntyre, and Frank Burns would be staying. Jacobson didn't waste any time getting rid of Henry, Radar, and Klinger. They were shipped out on the base's private airplane that was called Janet.

"Shall I show you four to the lab? Follow me," Jacobson said, without giving them a chance to reply.

The lab was underground so the base would be less visible. The lab was huge! They noticed all sorts of strange things in containers. 'Probably extraterrestrial guts,' thought Hawkeye. He didn't know it, but he was right. All of a sudden, an alarm system went off.

Chapter Two: Red Alert!

"We have to get out there...now!" Jacobson yelled.

"Why?" Hawkeye asked, but Jacobson was too far ahead to hear him. The four took off after the others who were headed outside.

Once outside, they saw a silver saucer shaped object land not five yards in front of them. A minute later, two strange looking grayish green creatures came out of it. About ten people from the base walked up to them and caught them. The creatures were then dragged off to the underground lab.

"What was that about?" Trapper asked.

"We don't want anyone to see this. There's a good view from that mountain up there, but we're working on getting it closed to the public, though," responded Jacobson. He then turned and headed back to his office.

A few hours later, Hawkeye, Trapper, Frank, and Margaret took their lunch break.

"I wonder why they really captured those creatures and what really goes on here," Hawkeye said in a whisper.

"Yeah," chorused the others.

"What do you say that tonight; after everyone has left, we search this place? We'll meet by the lab, okay?"

Everyone liked this idea, even though it could get them into a lot of trouble. Then, they gagged down what they could of the disgusting food and went back to work.

That night

Everyone had supposedly gone home. The place was pitch black. Margaret walked down the corridor that led to the lab. She ran into something. A hand was clapped over her mouth, so she couldn't scream.

"Margaret, it's me," hissed a voice.

"Oh...Hawkeye..." she said after he'd removed his hand from over her mouth.

"Okay, let's wait for the others. It's kind of dark in here, so it may take them a while to find their way through this place," he said. They waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, an hour had gone by, and they realized that they had been deserted. They would go on with their search anyway. They stuck close to the wall because they didn't know their way around that well yet. Then, the wall in one spot turned around and they were trapped in a little room.

Chapter Three: I Smell Trouble

The next morning, the wall was spun back into it's original position. They fell to the ground and saw two security guards standing over them. The guards obviously didn't care that Hawkeye and Margaret worked there. Each guard grabbed one person by the arm and forced them to stand up. It hurt, because both were rather stiff from being crammed in that little room all night.

They were thrown into a cell. Literally thrown into it. After the security guards reported what they suspected, they wandered off.

"Great! I wouldn't be surprised if that Burns character ratted," Hawkeye complained.

"Me neither," Margaret quietly agreed.

"So...what do you think will happen to us?" asked Hawkeye.

"I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet it isn't good."

A few minutes later, Jacobson walked in.

"I must say I'm not surprised...no, not at all surprised. After all, you're not the first curious workers I've had...I'm sure you won't be the last, either. It's a shame. You two could've been great workers. You'll make even better -"

"Sir, we have a slight problem," one of the security guards said to Jacobson.

"What is it?" snapped Jacobson.

"I think you need to see it to believe it," the guard replied.

"Very well," Jacobson said and then left.

"I wonder what he was going to say..."Margaret said.

"I don't know, but it probably is something we don't want to hear," Hawkeye said.

The next day...

Clomp clomp

Hawkeye and Margaret woke up to the sound of heavy footsteps walking through the concrete corridors.

Clink clink

The guard's seemingly innumerable keys banged together as he searched for the key to their cell.

Creeak creeak...SLAM!

The bars on the front of the cell were opened and crashed against the side of the cell, nearly causing Margaret and Hawkeye to jump out of their skin. Three other guards and Don Jacobson appeared.

"Laboratory 9," Jacobson said.

He turned and left; his footsteps echoed throughout the building. One guard grabbed Hawkeye's left arm and one grabbed his right. The third guard grabbed Margaret's left arm and the fourth her right. They walked down the corridor and through three labs. They walked through a maze of hallways until they came across a door. L9 was painstakingly written on it with neon green paint. Hawkeye turned his head and glanced at Margaret. She glanced back at him. To Hawkeye, that look seemed to ask What's going to happen to us?

Chapter Four: Who Turned Out The Lights?

The lab looked more like a torture chamber than a laboratory. It doesn't really matter, Hawkeye mused, we're not going to be here - or anywhere else - much longer. There were two operating tables in the middle of the room, but Hawkeye highly doubted they were there for appendectomies and the like. He didn't know how right he was. This would be the first attempt at this experiment. The scientists who were there a while back had obtained some alien DNA and they were going to find out how a human reacted when they received the DNA. The only question was, would it work?

The guards forced Hawkeye and Margaret onto the tables and used restraints to hold them there. Two people stepped forward and Hawkeye noticed that there was a glass window that separated this room from an outside corridor, where some of Area 51's scientists were watching; waiting to see what would happen. They prepared the syringes that contained the DNA.

My God, we're going to die, Margaret thought.

So, this is good bye cruel world, thought Hawkeye.

Suddenly, the lights went off. The crowd of people behind the glass spoke in panicked whispers. The lights came back on and they noticed that Hawkeye, Margaret, and the other two people who were in the lab had disappeared.

Where is this? Hawkeye wondered.

They were on one of the alien ships, and one of the aliens said one word: "Hegh." Translated into English, the word means die. Well, to put it simply, the ship where these four unlucky people ended up was like Earth's Area 51. The aliens were overjoyed because they finally got to see humans and were about to find out what made them tick. Your imagination can take it from here.
