What are jewels, you ask?  They are random things I am interested in that I would like to share with my visitors.  I like them enough to write in here about them, but not enough (at this point, at least) to create a separate page just for them.  I hope you like them, too.

Do you believe in destiny?  Do you think everything happens for a reason?  If you do, I can tell you why.  Just look up.  No, not at the ceiling fan, but outside at the stars. In May of 1999, as I was turning sixteen years old, I suddenly got interested in astrology.  Before you could say "birth chart" I was sucked into this amazingly interested science (or is it?  That's not really the point here.)  I am not a freak, I am not a part of a cult, and believe me, I may seem like one, but I am not a witch.  Yet these days I seem to encorporate astrology into most everything I do!  And how can I not, when there is so much to know and use.  Birth charts, zodiac signs, star placements, the list goes on.  It is a wonderful tool that helps me understand myself, and others, and the world around me.  Once I began reading up on signs, I got answers that I haven't been able to understand before.  Why do I seem to relate better to some friends than others?  What kind of parent will I make?  Which signs am I most compatible with?  How come I can be so stubborn and resistent to change?  The answers are all in the stars.  Most people think they are just pretty things to look at, but they are so much more.
Western astrology consists of 12 astrological signs, 10 ruling planets, and four elements.  There are also other elements, such as the 12 houses, Ascendant (AS), Descendant (DS), Midheaven (MC), the Nodes of the Moon, and the Part of Fortune (PF), but you don't need to know about them unless you are reading a birth chart or the like.  The 12 signs, if you don't know them already, are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.  The 10 planets are: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.  The four elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.  The signs are divided into the elements in groups of three.  Whereas the signs are a generelazation of the way people born under that sign are, the elements are an even bigger generalization.  The main difference between the elements is what they represent.  Fire represents actions, Earth represents belongings & possesions, Air represents thoughts & ideas, and Water represents emotions & feelings.
Your birth chart is a map of what the sky looked like the moment you were born.  The positions of the signs in the planets, and the planets in the houses determine your personal characteristics.  Free will overrules of course, because the positions are only your soul's intent, or your potential as a human being.  If you have read descriptions of your astrological sign, you may often find that not all of them fit you.  This is because you are only considering your Sun sign (the sign that the Sun was in at the moment of your birth.)  If you consider the other 9 planets in your birth chart, other signs will show up.  I happen to be a Taurus, but I have a great influence of Sagittarius in my chart, as well.  Other planets show up in my chart, adding together to create an original being via me.  And everyone's chart is different.  Think about it, if it wasn't then everyone born as a Gemini would be contradicting, every Virgo would be critical, and every Pisces would be sensitive.  And that's the coolest thing of all - the star placement in your birth chart makes you just as original as everyone else.  Don't you feel so *special*?
If you liked what I've written (and even if not), I'd like to invite you to read my astrology poems. I also have a couple astrology links you might want to see.

I love TV.  It's that simple.  Ever since I came to America, I don't think I've ever gone a day without picking up the remote. TV controls my life (well, not really) and I don't know what people like my grandparents did when they were growing up! There are six shows that I cannot stay away from: "the Simpsons," "the X-Files" (the movie rocked, by the way,) "Dawson's Creek," "Felicity," and "Family Guy."  And then there's "Mad About You." I think I've always been watching it, just because I love NBC/Must-see TV. But it was never really my favorite show...until now.
Over the past few years, I have been watching it nightly. They show it here Sundays at 10:35 and Monday-Friday 10:35 and 11:05. I have seen most of the episodes at least twice, some probably four times.  The last two summers have been well-spent tuning into this crazy world of marriage, told through spouses Paul and Jamie Buchman.  They are played by Paul Reiser and Academy Award winner Helen Hunt (As Good As it Gets), and the show has an awesome supporting cast!  They are two New Yorkers (now with a baby named Mabel) who are just truly the funniest couple on television! Both of them a very strange people (like the rest of us) and so are their family and friends. Their one-bedroom apartment is very cozy and they also have a dog named Murray. Every episode there is at least one moment when I have to laugh out loud.  It is the one thing that can calm me down after a crazy day at school or work.  My favorite episode is the one where they go to the Museum of Natural history and figure out that they had met twenty years before during a power outage at that same museum. It is just so cute.  My all-time favorite guest star is Mel Brooks (Robin Hood: Men in Tights) as lovable Uncle Phil.  As a matter of fact, Brooks won an Emmy for that role!  Guest stars aside, it is a hilarious series and I hope it stays in re-runs for many generations to enjoy!  "Mad About You" is truly a gem.

The face of a generation. Hmm, that may be a little much, or surely too early to tell. But a pretty face, at that. Josh Hartnett may not be one of those girly-guys the preteens scream for, but that's actually a good thing. It gives him more credibility as an actor. The 22-year-old Minnesotan made his TV debut in 1997's "Cracker," but his first real mark on Hollywood came in 1998's "Halloween H20," followed by my personal fave, "The Faculty." He has made a handful of movies since, including "Here on Earth" and "The Virgin Suicides." He's also played the infamous role of Iago in "O," an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Othello." The movie that is sure to jumpstart his career (as if he isn't big enough in my book already...) is "Pearl Harbor," 2001's summer blockbuster set in WWII, co-starring Ben Affleck. If you've seen the movie, you definitely know who Josh is and chances are, you can't get him out of your mind. ;-)
What I love the most about Josh's acting is that he makes his characters real. Even small roles make sense, he is great at becomming his character. He can play manipulative bad-ass or protective goody-goody and you wouldn't doubt him for a minute. Off-screen, too, he is a humble, reserved young man, never too pretensious or arrogant. I even bet if he was reading this right now, he'd blush and roll his eyes.
