This is my first MB but I use to work on my brother's car so I knew what I was getting myself into. I was really impressed by the quality of the engineering and that's why I bought one. I try and do all the work myself except the big jobs. In the one y
ar I got the car I had the differential (spider gears worn) and the head professionally rebuilt, bushing for front arms replaced. Installed a 400 watt sound system with 8 speakers by myself. I have a Crane XR3000 going in too.
The only thing I hate is the bad fuel mileage a 2 litre engine gets. Due to tax considerations, a 2 litre is just about affordable. A 2.8 litre will cost just shy of US$3000 a year in taxes! That's what you get when you're on a little island with more
oney than roads.

"Built like tank!" as a fellow owner from Europe raved. Also I would say "Slow like slug!" But the quality/reliability/fuel economy, all excellent, are most important to me. I only wish it had a manual gearbox. I don't like automatics, including this
rans. I have a leak that will require probably $500 labor to replace a $2 shaft bushing. Not to mention the reduced performance & the fact that fuel economy could be even better with a stick.

Great site, I was surprised to see that so many folks love their old benzes as much as I do!
I bought my 230 about 5 years ago for US$200. She had been in a front end collision, requiring lights, grille, hood and fenders. But the engine still turned over after 3 years of lying dormant.
After new paint, a valve job, a tranny rebuild and
and an interior salvaged from a totalled '83 240D the car is nearly showroom new. I'll never sell it
"solid as a bank vault and almost as fast". You just gotta love these cars.

I know your saying to yourself that Mercedes model does not exist. Your wrong this was a special made european model which I paid extra for. My father was the original owner of this car he had it made to a higher level engine compare to the 5 cyclender
00D this is a Turbo Diesel V8 engine which means that the car is much bigger than the 300D model but it is still the same body and design as the 300D sedan. Custom made in Germany ship to the US and sent here when the car was brand new car of the year at
that time. Retail price 300D $35,000 at the time he paid for a 400D $50,000 in 1984. Can go as fast as 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds top speed is 145 MPH. It has 26 valves, I'm going to tell you that you will NOT find another customed made Mercedes like this
one. The only one in the world which is a W123 400D V8.

I bought my car 9 months ago and I don´t think I´ve ever driven a car that runs as nice as this. The seats are perfect both in front- and backseat, even I with my 192 cm length have no problems to sit comfortably. On the highway it runs quiet and smooth,
he only thing I could wish for is a fifth gear. It´s my first MB but definately not my last. If it it weren´t for the cost I would like a bigger engine but since I´m a student I can´t really afford it.

This car has one small rust spot down the front off-side skirt seam and that's basically it. Mechanically it's very sound, however it does suffer from the following 'known' problems:
Knackered drivers seat
central locking disfunctional - did this model even have central locking ??
leaking boot
wood trim come adrift from it's backing on the glovebox and dash below the air vents
intermittent buzzing noise heard when turning on the hazard warning lights
cracked front head lamp
the passenger side mirror electric control doesn't allow quite enough movement of mirror for my liking - is this a limit i've hit ?
All for £1000 - not bad if you ask me !!

By the way,I was in hard put to unfortunatly
alternator trouble at 4 months ago,I carried out
replacing it to rebuilt one from US. Somewhere
else,I've repalced brake pad and shockabsorber,
becase,in japan,those parts are too mach overspend
by go-stop taraffic condition.
Of course I carring out those repair and
maintenance on myself-worked.
I will continue to drive her Lily,and will own all

to put that in perspective, thats about a little over 12 laps around the equator.
right now shes getting new glowplugs, timing chain, just gave her new brakes, and im working on getting her a manny tranny to replace the auto that she has now (although that one was only replaced 20,000 miles ago, id rather have a manny)

ner who used it only summers and stored it in a heated garage from Oct to Apr since new. It is in near showroom condition and with some elbow grease could be a show-winner. No physical damage or imperfections. Runs flawlessly with gas-engine performance.

Bought the car with a destroyed engine (I

a '76 about a dozen years ago. Liked it a LOT!
The W123 is a very nice car. Might sell at my
cost if I can find a 240TD with a 5 spd manual,
and third seat. I would even take one with a
bad engine. Just want that wagon with the 5 spd
transmission. Prefer an '81 or newer. Anyone?
As for the one with the new engine, I LOVE IT!!

My car is mecanicly in a very good condition. Okey some minor adjustments may be needed, but even if it feels like it, she's not brand new anylonger. Then we come to her body. At night under a not so strong light she looks perfect. However, even in Sweden

Engine just gave up at 516K. I am looking for a late (pin type glow plug) manual transmission car to get the engine and final drive unit. This car has lower ratio (higher numerically) gears than any other I've ever been in. The only thing I can figure
s that it was originally purchased in the Alps or somewhere else needing low rear end ratio for hill climbing.
This is my fourth 123 diesel. With all the driving I do (95 miles one way to the office) the 123 diesel is the most economical to operate vehicle I know of.

We did not get 200Ds imported to Canada. This one was privately imported from Germany to Canada in August 1998. The car is very spartan compared to the official models imported for sale in Canada by Mercedes Benz. It seems that this generation diesel i
now heavily taxed in Germany and they are discounted to some degree.
This car spent its first year in the Mercedes Benz fleet service.
It has adequate power for me. I can cruise all day long at 120 to 130 kph.
I believe the 200D 615 engine has a long life expectancy.
These cars are very simple and easy to maintain.
I am looking forward to a long relationship with my 200D

We love our turbo diesel wagon. It has a surprising amount of power, something like a small V8. I have just rebuilt the front brake calipers. I have an ongoing project of keeping the body rust free. The later 123s are better for resisting rust. I have
eveloped my panel painting skills repairing the odd bits of rust and dings. The results look very professional. The best part about the car is the solid reliability, comfort and safety that we experience on the road at any speed.
