Peter Asher - guitar/vocals (born June 22nd 1944, London)

Gordon Waller - guitar/vocals (born June 4th 1945, Braemar)

Peter and Gordon were a hugely popular pop/folk duo during the mid-Sixties. Both products of upper middle-class familes, they met at Winchester School for boys in London. They worked together as a campus duo, in the style of The Everly Brothers, and decided to try their luck in the clubs of London.

Asher and Waller won a recording contract with EMI in 1963. Their first, and biggest hit was Paul McCartney's "A World Without Love". The record was the first by a British Invasion act other than the Beatles to top the American charts.

At the time, McCartney was courting Asher's sister, Jane. The follow-up was another previously unrecorded Lennon/McCartney song, "Nobody I Know", and that also made the top ten. They continued having hits regularly before going their separate ways in 1968. Asher became director of A&R at the Beatles' Apple Records.
