Local Bands Page!
This page is dedicated to bands in the Michigan area.

The Drovers are a band out of Chicago.  I have seen them here in Michigan 5 times now.  They have a celtic sound with a solid rock beat. I cannot compare them with Black 47, they have their own unique sound and I like them much more than I like Black 47. They have been in a couple of movies and appeared at The Golden Globes once.  Merritt really fills out the band, and they should have a new CD out soon (they have been saying that for awhile now).  Check out their web page!  It's awesome!

The lash is a band out of Birmingham, Michigan.  They started out doing covers of The Pogues (getting their name of course from Rum, Sodomy, and The Lash) for free Guinness.  Now they play at the Guinness Flead festival in Chicago every year and are poised to go national.  They are in a tough phase right now because their drummer and their pipe player just quit.  If you are ever in the Lansing or Detroit area and get a chance to see them do so!  They have a few songs at mp3.com right now so you can have a listen.  They are an excellent band and you will be right at home watching them as you drink a pint of stoudt.  Cheers!

The Immigrant Suns are a folk group from the Detroit area.  The guy with the glasses is an Albanian from Montenegro, so recently he had some major concerns and so they got together with The Lash and a few other local musicians to throw a benefit concert for the refugees in the Balkans.  This group is truly unique, I have never heard anything like the music they put together.  They have opened for The Drovers and the world famous Violent Femmes among other things.  if you would like to know more click on their picture for a link to their web site.

Packaged Bliss is a group out of Kalamazoo.  I saw them for the first time at a local band fest in Bay City where they impressed me over all the other bands there (even the band I went to see which has since broken up).  They make the trip to Bay City once in awhile and I make the effort to go see them whenever I can.  They play the clubs in Kalamzoo, Detroit and Lansing as well.  They have a modern pop sound, not anything like the previous bands I mentioned but very pleasing to the ear nonetheless.

Melany Joy Beck is a local performer from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  While I have never seen her live I was treated to her CD by Matt Allington who was a DJ on the college radio station up at Michigan Tech in Houghton (otherwise known as nowheresville or "It's not the end of the world but you can see it from there.").  She has some true talent and I do hope to catch her live one day.  She has an official web site and an unofficial website made for her by her fans in the UP.  She recently sent me a letter thanking me for putting her on my website and telling me she updated hers. Very cool.  Click on her picture to view her official page.

Here is a new cool band from Brighton called Reagen?  No...I am not wondering if their name is reagen I am just writing there name which you notice has a question mark in it.  Nice little gimmick, kind of like the Beatles.  They just came out with a new CD entitled She Uses Punctuation.  You can buy it or hear a few tracks from it by going to there website.  They also have a page at mp3.com.  Check them out.

Lori Amey is another cool local artist.  She has opened for many famous acts and is currently trying to get an east coast tour together.  Her music is poetic as well as melodic.  She is compared with several more well-known artists just because that is the only way people know to quantify her.  She is truly a unique talent and deserves a listen.  Check her web page out by clicking on her picture.  She is so cool she even has her name in her URL.

I also have a concert page with all the bands I have seen in concert.  Click on the link, or one of the other pages below to see more about me.
