Top of the Pops magazine interview - March 1995

This picture appeared beside the interview with Adam in the first edition of Top of the Pops magazine. Below are some quotes from Adam.

"By the time Live Aid came along, I had to get out 'cos it would've killed me! By the late 80's, I just didn't fit in anymore because I wasn't a dance artist and had no real interest in that sort of thing. So I went to LA to act and have a rest."

"In 1992, I had an album that had taken me 18 months to make which MCA didn't release. I felt like shit! As well as that, I'd just broken up with someone I was deeply in love with. So I sat down one morning and I just thought about this girl and all the good stuff and I wrote down how wonderful she was. This is the first real personal record I've ever made. I'm not expecting Wonderful to be a chart topper, but I can't keep writing records for one particular audience."

"I think I should have taken my time more between Kings and Prince Charming, but I was under so much pressure and I was so desperate to change."

"By the time Ant Rap came out, the dressing-up-in-videos thing was over for me, and I started thinking, "Can I get a hit with a record that's got no music on it, just drums and a rap?". And Ant Rap went to number three and I thought,"Blow me! I can get away with anything!" Regrets are stupid, but I do think all that was probably a mistake."

"I love Blur - I think Parklife is a perfect album. Supergrass are my tip for everything ever, and I love Elastica, Pulp, Terrorvision, and Gene. I think the music scene's the best it's been since punk, and I'm glad that, in the middle of it all, I'm putting out a record myself."

"I never expected to be screamed at, chased, adored and pinned on a wall. But what people forget is the enormous amount of work it takes to be a successful pop star, and I can't think of anyone who hasn't paid the price..."
