The Clash to Reunite for Dury Tribute

Punk legends the Clash reform for one-off gig

They've said for years that there would be no reunion, but Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Nicky "Topper" Headon have agreed to take the stage together for the first time since the Clash broke up in 1985. According to a source close to Strummer, the Clash will play Ian Dury's tribute concert at London's Brixton Academy on June 16, but the content of the band's set is not yet known.

The Clash dissolved in 1985, a couple of years after Strummer and Simonon fired Jones and Headon, and they have refused many offers to reunite, including lucrative deals to headline Lollapalooza.

Also performing at the Dury tribute will be Robbie Williams, former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, Madness, Nenah Cherry, Kirsty MacColl, Republica's Saffron and Dury's band the Blockheads. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Cancer BACUP charity. Dury, best known for his irreverent Cockney anthems "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and "Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll," died in March after a long battle with liver cancer.
