About the Bee

Hi. I am Ann Wain, aka Queen Bee. There is a long story behind my nickname. As all die-hard U2 fans will know, a few years ago Bill Flanagan wrote a book about U2 called "U2: At the End of the World" which is often called "Flanagan's Bible." At the end of this (fantastic) book, the author describes an interview with Bono's father, Bob Hewson, in which Bob reveals that young Bono had a habit of picking up bees in the garden and talking to them, to his mother's horror. I have always seemed to have a rather odd attraction for insects; a butterfly once sat on my head for a good 10 minutes, and as a child I too would often lie in the grass watching the bees collect nectar from the clover with my nose just inches or centimeters away from our buzzing friends. When I read the passage in Flanagan's Bible about Bono and the bees, I was touched by his sweetness and reminded of myself. Consequently, when I went to my first U2 concert, May 24, 1997 in Columbus on the Popmart tour, I brought along a small bee puppet to give to Bono. This caused other people around to begin calling me "the Bee Girl" and then "the Bee Queen"...and Queen Bee, U2 fanatic was born.
On May 19, 2001 I married a wonderful man named Dave...I can't believe how amazing he is, and how well we get along. He is everything I always dreamed about and more (I know it's cliché but it's true) and everything I always wanted without ever letting myself believe it was possible. I can completely be myself with him, it is so freeing. In May 1999 I graduated with highest honours from Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in art history and French. The following year I went to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland where I studied art history and recieved a postgraduate diploma. In retrospect some of my life has been rather icky (depression) but my wonderful friends and family have helped me get through everything. So, big hugs and lots of thanks to Mom, Dad, Mary, Julie, Jen Mo, Jen Bo, Julia, Arielle, all my online friends, and most of all my darling husband Dave. :-)
