    NEW LINEUP, SHOWS, SINGLE
8/11/00: (Latest from Jim Kaa) - The Crowd has shuffled their regular lineup for the first time in two years, as Mark Lee departs to play full time for Dwayne Peters' (of US Bombs) new band The Huns. Boze will now play guitar and Corey (ex-China White) takes over on bass. This newest version of The Crowd will play together the first time tomorrow, 8/12, at Linda's Doll Hut.

The Crowd will also play at a benefit for Flipside at The Garage in Silverlake in two weeks, along with Adz, Smogtown, and others. The next scheduled show after that is at the Tiki Hut in Costa Mesa with the Dickies (on Sept. 29th) although several other appearences are being planned for the fall.

The new single I'm Not Happy Here will soon be pressed on vinyl, but you can hear it now at LoudEnergy.Com. The release date of the new Crowd CD is now targeted for 1/1/2001.

    RIK L RIK: 1960-2000
Rik L Rik, who appeared with the Simpletones and The Crowd on the 1979 Beach Boulevard album, passed away on June 30th in Riverside, California. Rik had been in hospice care for a short time, and his cancer had progressed quickly. For more information on Rik's prolific career see the Posh Boy Records web site. He will be missed.

    VINYL EP COMING SOON
5/24/00 - The bad news first: the long-awaited Crowd CD is now on hold until at least September and perhaps as late as January 2001. But the good news is that the first Crowd release since 1998's $kad should be available within two months. This 4-song vinyl EP (from Hostage Records) will contain three new tracks - Can Pipe, Luxury of Youth and I'm Not Happy Here as well as a cover of the Wierdos' classic Solitary Confinement.

In other news, The Crowd opened for X at the House of Blues in LA last month in front of a packed house . More shows are tentatively planned for July. And new t-shirts featuring the Letter Bomb motif and the famous Beach Boulevard sign are in the works.

    THE LATEST: From Jim Kaa
2/24/2000 - We are rocking at Club Mesa on Saturday, February 26 (two days from right now). We will be playing many new songs for a new CD to be recorded in May, 2000. Some of the Songs are:
  • Canpipe - "They're smokin crack all night out of a canpipe" (Chorus Lyric)
  • SugarSmack - Killer Jam like Rocker
  • Max got hit by a Car - Music by Boz, Lyric about Jim's son Max (Duh)
  • Luxury of Youth - I hate being old
  • Into the Wild - From a book about a guy who walks into the Alaskan wilderness & dies. I'm not happy here - I'm not quite sure what this one is about?

1/10/2000 - Finished the year with two rockin' shows, December 3 at the Tiki Bar with Dee Dee Ramone, we played a strong set, but I broke a string and had to play the back-up Stratocaster. Then the next week Played the second spot with TSOL at the Glass House in Pomona. The bill was TSOL/Youth Brigade/The Crowd/Throwrag, it was packed with 500-700 kids (all ages show). We had good response and a pit the entire set, those crazy kids!

We are continuing to write songs for a CD that we are going to do with Bomp (Disaster) records. We hope to be in the studio in April, and have something out in the summer. Some of the new songs are: Can Pipe, Sugar Smack, Into the Wild, Luxury of Youth, Surf Ghetto, When Satan Smiles!
