It all started back in the end of 1989, when a bunch of students
specialising philology in the Sofia
University “St. Kliment Ohridski” got together and came up with the
name FKNF (after the name of the philology department at the university).
Until 1991, when whilst the band is still evolving, the line-up is frequently
changing, but in 1992 the band get their steady line-up and take over their
new name - DEAD POETS, after the famous movie “Dead Poets Society”.
Thus DEAD POETS face their first live show, as a warm up for the
popular Bulgarian wave band New Generation, but only to follow with series
of their own live gigs, as well as with other bands. In 1994 DEAD POETS
release their first album “Demo”, which is recorded under home conditions
and on the recordings all the instruments and parts are played and sung
together, as if a concert. The album survived a limited edition.
In the summer of 1995 DEAD POETS recorded a four-track maxi-single,
while not giving away their concert activities, not only in Sofia, but
in other Bulgarian cities as well - Burgas, Varna, Blagoevgrad, etc.
In the beginning of 1996 DEAD POETS enter the Sofia based Studio
X and start the recording of their second album, which is finished two
years thereafter. Until then the original line-up has again suffered changes
and the only left members are Momtchil and Christo, along with Veselin,
who has come in 1991.
The music in this album is composed by the whole band and the lyrics
are written by Veselin.
At this moment DEAD POETS are already working on their new material
and meanwhile they are finally celebrating the release of their second
album “Dead Poets”. The first single “Fear of Heights” is a huge radio
hit all around the country.
