You Loved Me Enough

Now that I am grown
I am old enough to understand
The logic that motivates a mother
I have realized
You loved me enough to ask me about
where I was going, with whom I was going
and what time I would get home
You loved me enough to insist
I buy a bike I could afford
using my own money
You loved me enough to be silent
and let me discover my
hand picked friend was a creep
You loved me enough to make me return
the candy bar with a bite taken out of it
to the store and say "I stole this"
You loved me enough to stand over me for two hours
while I cleaned my room
that would have taken you fifteen minutes
You loved me enough to let me see anger, disappointment,
disgust, and tears in your eyes
You loved me enough to admit when you were wrong
and ask for my forgiveness
You loved me enough to
let me stumble, fall, and hurt
You loved me enough to
let me assume responsiblity for my
actions at 6, 10, and 16
But most of all you loved me enough to say no
even when I hated you for it
Even though it was the hardest part of all

Mom, this is for all those times you ever
wondered if you were getting through to me.
Though many times all you said seemed to fall
on deaf ears, and all your efforts seemed to
go unnoticed, I always felt how much you cared.
Most of all, I have to tell you thank you
for never giving up on me!

Made with Flutterby love!
