Sixties in Philly: Motorcycling Memories

Dedicated to Rena Louise Weingrad, 1946-1968.

Does "Meet you at the Cage" or "See you down at La Belle's" mean anything to you? Remember when Bob Laughlin's "Star Cycle Sales" flourished on the site now occupied by the University of Pennsylvania's Monell Chemical Senses Center, right across from the Harley-riding "State Burners?" Saturday night scratching tours on the East and West River Drives, with a cruise around the Museum of Art? Sundays at ATCO Dragway? Honda CB77s with Webco 350 kits, megs and clip-ons, Yamaha YDS-2s and 3s, Montesa and Bultaco street bikes leaving that delicious smell of Castrol R40, sweet Triumph Domestic British 500s with highbrow lowbars and hot fudge Bonnies with lowbrow apehangers? Quite a few lightning fast Bonnies in fact. And Beezers, Outfields, Nortons, Matchless, AJS, Ducati Dianas, Jawas, Bimmers and Allstates, Parillas, Benellis, Motobis, WSKs Lambrettas and Vespas? anyone remember the Rabbit? My favorite Harley? XLCH natch.
