Best Friends Valentine's Day Pins/Magnets

This St. Valentine's Day, create a double-heart pin or magnet out of bread dough as a gift for your best friend. Then make one for yourself too!

Supplies: 2 slices soft white bread; some water; white glue; small heart shaped cookie cutter (about 1" high) or heart cut out of heavy paper to use as a stencil and a dull knife; red acrylic paint (or red food coloring for pink hearts); contrasting color paint (for optional lettering); 2 paintbrushs one regular and one with a fine point for lettering; or permanent marker with finepoint for lettering; pinbacks or magnets; measuring teaspoon; paper cup, wooden stick for mixing.

Step 1: Remove the crusts from the bread. Break the remaining white bread into small pieces and put into the paper cup. Pour 2 teaspoons of water and 2 teaspoons of glue into the cup. If you want pink hearts add a drop of red food coloring. Stir until mixed, then knead the dough in your hands until smooth and no longer sticky.

Step 2: Wash and dry your hands thoroughly. With your hands, press out the dough on a clean, flat surface until it is 1/4" thick. With the cookie cutter cut two hearts out of the dough. If you are using a stencil place it lightly on the dough and cut around it using a dull edged knife. Let the hearts dry overnight.

Step 3: If you have not added food coloring, paint the hearts red and allow to dry for at least an hour. Glue them together slightly overlapping the edges. Allow the glue to fully dry. Before painting any additional lettering like "Best Friends" or your two names. You can write with a marker or glitter glue if you'd prefer. Or, glue small photos of you and your friend onto each heart. It's up to you!

Step 4: Once the piece has fully dried, place a small dab of glue on the back and attach either a jewelry finding "pinback" or a small magnet.

Step 2: Do a watercolor painting over the design and allow to dry totally.
