"These paintings were all done a few years ago when the Pope visited Denver Coloradol, and as fate would have it, the cathedral where he said mass was near my studio, which meant that roads were blocked and traffic was always being rerouted.

Helicopters were always over the city and one could not live there and not be aware that the Pope was in town. There was a kind of peacefulness that seemed to blanket the city for those days, and I felt obligated to paint something. There turned out to be four paintings. These are three of them..."
