QRP in INDIA

In India QRP is very much alive. The majority of stations work on low power. This is mainly due to non-availability and very high cost of imported amateur radio equipment. Occasionally individuals and organizations come up with offers for PCBs and designs of monoband QRP transmitters and transceivers. One of the problems that inhibit such efforts is non-availability of critical components usually used in designs that originate from USA and Europe, on which some of these designs are based (popular components like the MC1496, NE602, toroidal cores etc are not available/very hard to get !). The majority of QRP operation is on AM and CW, with output power in the range of around 5 Watts. Most of the hams use simple solid state transmitters in combination with cheap broadcast receivers. The most popular band for QRP operations right now is 7-7.1 MHz.
