Using MapThis!

  1. Start MapThis!.

  2. Create a New image map file.

  3. You will be prompted to go and find an image to associate with the image map.

  4. Define areas on the image by selecting a shape from the toolbar and marking out appropriate boundaries.

  5. Repeat step 4 until all areas of the image map are defined.

  6. From the View menu choose Area list. Areas in the list will be red if a URL has not been assigned to them.

  7. Highlight the first area on the list and choose Edit. When the dialogue box appears, enter a URL to attach to that area. Repeat for each area, making sure to assign the correct URL to each.

  8. From the File menu select Save. Another dialogue box will appear. Fill in any desired information. A default URL, if selected, will be activated if an area of the image beyond the defined boundaries is clicked by a browser.

  9. Verify that the map file format is set to NCSA then choose OK.

  10. Give the map file a name (this should be associated to the image file that the map belongs to.)

Your image map is now created and you are almost done. The remaining step is to create the "map" HTML tags for insertion in your document. This is necessary so your "image map" will be operational.
