Making a Hidden GeoCounter

People often request a method to make a "hidden counter" for their page. Though they want a "visible" counter on their MAIN page they don't want the counter to be "readily visible" on other pages of their website.

One method I've found to make a counter "nearly hidden" and significantly "less intrusive" is to modify the HTML tag for the GeoCounter. This method will place the counter on the page, and yet viewable to the "site owner" with little problem while nearly unviewable to the regular visitor to the site.

The HTML "modification" to use to accomplish this follows:

<IMG SRC=http://viswww.oocities.org/it/counter.gif height=1 width=1> By adding the HEIGHT=1 and WIDTH=1 the counter will be placed on the page but of such size as to be practically "invisible." There will be a very SMALL square in the location of the counter which will make it nearly impossible for the visitor to view. The site Owner, though, using a NETSCAPE browser, can RIGHT CLICK on the "small mark" and select VIEW IMAGE from the Menu and view the counter at FULL-SIZE and observe the actual number of hits to that counter with ease. Those using an MSIE browser will have to go to the Counter Manager to view the count. The number displayed on the counter will be recorded in the Counter Manager and can be viewed, set, or controlled there using both NS or IE browsers.

The counter for THIS page is ACTIVATED using the above method and is available to view, as an EXAMPLE, by clicking on the "small blue dot" below on the LEFT.

( ) RIGHT CLICK the BLUE "dot" and VIEW IMAGE (73) to view the actual page count. (The "parentheses" around the "dot" are for finding the counter in this example.)

The counter can be positioned through regular TEXT alignment HTML tags to place it out of the way or in an unobtrusive location.
