I've had my parrot for almost fourteen years now and she's one of the best things I've had in my life. She's a great parrot, and for anyone who is looking for a pet, if you have a little patience, a parrot would be an excellent pet. I got some interesting information on parrots which I definetly needed since I just got a 20 year old amazon last week. He is great and my kids love him. I also linked into the cockatiel page and learned some stuff on breeding which is good since I have one new baby. The other eggs were duds. Now she has layed another egg - the chick is only 3-1/2 weeks old and I guess she and dad want to add on to their little family quickly. Is this bad timing?

Comments ~: We have had our Dusky Conure for about 24 hours. It is 2months old and acts asif it has been with us forever. Last night it curled up under a blanket on Cathy'schest and fell asleep. Amazingly tame. It fusses when in the cage and wants ut to be with you. It also eats fruit out of our hands (grapes, apple) After hearing that they need to become acclaimated to a home I was so surprised to see how comfortable this Conure is in envoirnment.

I love hearing about other people's birds especially Mitred Conures. I adopted Coco when she was abandoned by an elderly owner who was put in a nursing home. I don't know how old she is but she was really plucked. She was in bad condition and after six months she is feeling great! I adopted her because of the joy of her. She is totally enthusiastic about everything, even when she was not feeling well. She says a lot of things - some in another language, imitates sneezes, other birds, anything she hear . Coco is about 15 inches long and we have not totally bonded yet. She comes down from her cage and walks around on the carpeting examining everything and comes over to the couch and chats with me, but if I try to touch her she bites - not hard, just a w rning. I guess it will take time.

My double yellow has inflammation of the stomach and intestines. In five months he went from 495 grams to 339 grams. He is unable to retain the nutrients from his food. His blood work shows an extremely low level of protein and muscle mass. In other w rds, he is starving even though he eats regularly. The veterinarian thinks he might have macaw wasting disease. If anyone has any knowledge of this dreadful disease and can give me some insight, I would really appreciate it. Unfortunately, the only way to find out for sure if a bird has this disease is to taka a biopsy of the crop after the bird has died. I want to see if I can do something before that happens. Any information would sure help. I love my bird and I don't want to lose him.

I just found this site, I'm hoping somebody has the answer to my question. We just found out our Amazon has a bacterial infection called Pseudomonas. She has spent 4 days in the hospital getting antibiotic injections. Then she came home for 12 days and was on oral anitbiotics. Now she is back in the hospital on 2 anitibiotic in ections a day and Vitamin A shots (she became deficient in Vit. A). Has anybody ever had a sick bird with this infection? If so, can you please tell me how long it took for them to get well and what precautions you have taken so they wouldn't get it again. We love her more than anything and this is breaking our heart!!< r>

Having a parrot friend, I enjoy reading any material I can find but reading about organic fruits/vegetables was a sad eye-opener. I always thought it was best to feed my parrot organic foods, but I never thought anything so horrifying could happen from 'r gular' fruits.
