BANGKOK SONGKRAN FESTIVAL
April 12 - 14, 2006
At Sanam Luang and citywide, Bangkok
The traditional Thai New year , is celebrated citywide, most notably at Sanam Luang, fronting the Grand Palace, where the revered Phra Buddha Sihing image is displayed and bathed by devotees, and at Wisutkasat, where a Miss Songkran beauty contest is accompanied by merit - making, paying respects to elders and numerous forms of entertainment, including high - spirited water throwing.

CHIANG MAI SONGKRAN FESTIVAL
April 13 - 15, 2006
At Tha Pae Gate and citywide, Chiang Mai
Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, is celebrated all over the country but nowhere with more enthusiasm than in Chiang Mai Part of the celebration is religious, marked by merit-making ceremonies at local temples, and part is pure pleasure, with good-natured water throwing, parades, and beauty contests.


Tha Phae road in Chai Mai was brightened up by young ladies riding bicycles while wearing traditional costume and holding umbrells. This was part of a grand parade to celebrate Songkran Day

At Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok
This show presents car lovers with future technology and new cars. 2006's Show will be at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition centre (BITEC), where car companies, motorcycle companies, and autoparts companies come to sell their products. BITEC's facilities include a main exhibition hall, outdoor exhibition areas, a loading area, a convention hall, and parking areas. Showtime will be 12 noon until 8.00 PM.

THAI HERITAGE CONSERVATION DAY & SHADOW PLAY (NANG TALUNG-NORA) FESTIVAL
At City Hall Field, Phattalung
The festivals features shadow play, Nora dance, and local food & products contests, demonstrations of local arts & culture and local product sales.

DAMNEON SADUAK FLOATING MARKET & SWEET GRAPE WEEK FAIR
April 1 - 30, 2006
At Damneon Saduak, Ratchaburi
The fair features a beauty contest, a Thai cooking competition, agricultural exhibitions, and local product sales including fruits & Thai sweets.

PHANOM RUNG FAIR
At Phanom Rung Historical Park, Buri Ram
Located on a hilltop with splendid views, Phanom Rung is an impressive Khmer temple dating from the early part of the Angkor period, adorned with superb stone carvings. The temple complex, is the centrepiece of this fair, which also features various exhibits.

MEKONG FRIENDSHIP FESTIVAL
April 12 - 14, 2006
At Sai Thong Beach, Nakhon Phanom
Nakhon Phanom, on the bank of Mekong River, formerly hosted Thai - Lao friendship meetings. Now it is the place where Burma, Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam unite to enjoy arts & cultural performances, handicraft demonstrations, sports competitions, and souvenir sales.

DOK KHUN - SIANG KHAEN FESTIVAL
At Bueng Kaen Nakhon, Khon Kaen
This festival coincides with Songkran (the Traditional Thai New Year) and includes traditional merit making ceremonies such as paying homage to revered Buddha Images, and shrines, respectfully pouring water on elders' hands, offering food to monks, and beauty contests, floral float processions and northeastern folk entertainment.

MAI KHAM BHO PROCESSION FESTIVAL
At Chom Thong, Chiang Mai
Mai Kharm Bho, literally wooden supports for holy Pho (bodhi or pipul) trees in temple courtyards, are employed in meritorious acts believed to bring participants long and happy lives. Mai Kharm Bho are prepared on April 13 and 14, accompanied by cultural performances, April 15 sees a procession of Mai Kharm Bho to local temples.

PATTAYA FESTIVAL
At Pattaya City, Chon Buri
Thailand's world-famous seaside resort puts on its most festive face for this annual event, held at the height of the summer season. Food and floral floats, beauty contests, stalls selling local delicacies, and a spectacular display of fireworks on the beach are only a few of the highlights that attract merrymakers.

PHRA PADAENG SONGKRAN FESTIVAL
At Samut Prakan
The Mons were among Thailand's earliest settlers and a large community of them still lives in the Phra Padaeng district, of Samut Prakan province just south of Bangkok. They too, celebrate the start of the old former solar new year with a thorough cleaning of the house, religious observances, and colourful parades.

ANCESTRAL SPIRITS CEREMONY
April 19 - 21, 2006
At Si Racha, Chon Buri
Local people celebrate commencement of the traditional Thai New Year, customarily a time for paying respect to one's elders, by offering food to ancestral spirits, festivities include a colourful procession, ceremonial food offerings, a beauty contest, culinary demonstrations, sports competitions, and musical and cultural performances.

THAI FOOD FESTIVAL
April 29 - May 3, 2006
At Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNNC), Bangkok
This festival will confirm Thailand's role as a major food exporter and manufacturing centre, and attract food importers. The festival will also feature food exhibitions, business meetings, products sales, and food-making demonstrations.
