My Awareness Page

I was sitting at my computer the other day (as if I'm ever anywhere else), and was looking through some graphics I have. I realized that there are a lot of things that either are happening in my life or things that have happened in my life that have had a direct effect on me and those around me. Now, I know that these things aren't necessarily "environment" related, but in a way they are. These are things that plague the people on our planet daily. I know that some of my "causes" do not directly effect your life, but these are some of things that I feel very strongly about and would like to share them with you. These are my "causes": AIDS Awareness, Free Speech Online, Breast Cancer Awareness, The Fight Against Domestic Violence, The fight against alcoholism and drug addiction, Stopping Drunk Drivers, and searching for the cures for Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as for religious freedom and equality, and the fight for equal rights for homosexuals. Please help me in the fight for equality and the pursuit of a happy, healthy life for all our brothers and sisters. I have written a short dedication for each of my causes, because each of these has truly hit home for me in some way.

This AIDS Awareness Ribbon is dedicated to my friend Danny, who died of AIDS at the age of 16. It is also dedicated to all the others who suffer from this disease and to those who have gone on to the Summerland already. The only way we can fight this awful disease is through education, not ignorance. Please make yourself aware and help us fight this thing that plagues so many people.

I dedicate this ribbon to those who, like myself continue to fight against censorship online. We all have our own message to convey. Who is to say whether it is right or wrong??

Freedom of Religion was the reason our forefathers came to this country. No matter what religion we choose to practice, we deserve respect. I have studied many of the world's religions and have found that they do have one thing in common: LOVE for our fellow man. Let's try and find our common ground and stop concentrating on our differences.

I dedicate this page to all the men and women who have been physically, mentally, sexually and emotionally abused. Please let's show our children that violence is not the answer. I, myself, am a victim of Domestic Violence, as are many of my friends, men and women alike. Please let's stop the violence that plagues so many of our world's families.

These Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbons are dedicated to both of my grandmothers. One of whom I lost to this disease about 15 years ago, and to the other who is still fighting against this disease that plagues her body. Please, do what you can to help us find a cure for this and do what you can to prevent yourself from getting this awful disease.

This I dedicate to my mother who is fighting this debilitating disease. She was diagnosed with it in 1977, and has been fighting ever since. She has experienced blindness, paralysis, seizures, severe muscle spasms, and frequent trips to the hospital for treatments that help her go into remissions. Soon, she may not be able to even see her own grandchildren because of this damned disease. Please help us find a cure. I love you momma.

This Fibromyalgia ribbon is dedicated to my very dear friend Linda, who suffers from Fibromyalgia. Keep fighting the good fight. Please help us to find a way for my friend and so many like her to live without the pain of this awful disease.

My friends, I have recently found out that I suffer from this disease called Fibromyalgia. And so, know what it is to struggle everyday with this damn disease. So, please do all you can to support research for this.

This little symbol, the circle/triangle, is very dear to my heart, as you all well know. Being an alcoholic in recovery, I fight daily with the disease of alcoholism as do so many millions of others all over the world. If you or someone you know is an alcoholic, please educate yourself on this terrible disease that effects so many people.

Well, what many of you don't know, is that I am a recovering drug addict as well. Well, now you do. I have been clean from drugs for 7 years. There is no better feeling than to know that I never have to snort some white powder up my nose, or smoke something, or take a pill to solve my problems. If you or someone you know suffers from drug addiction, please contact NA in your area…they're in the phone book.

"I'm MADD as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!"

This is dedicated to my best friend Eric Witthoft (1969-1987) who died at the hands of a drunk driver. Just six months away from graduation and 3 months of being clean and sober, he was pushed into his car by a drunk "friend", who took his keys and sped onto a very windy road in western Missouri, this "friend" lost control of the car and flipped it upside down into a drainage ditch full of water where Eric, tangled in the seatbelts in the backseat drown to death. His "friend" is still walking around free as a bird. How many of our children and loved ones have to die before anyone gets really pissed and does something about this??? I love you Eric, wherever you are. I've found a poem called Death of an Innocent that I thought y'all might want to read. So, just click on the link and it will take you there.

Okay, I know a lot of you are going to have a problem with this one, but it's something that is important to me. I know a lot of my friends are sick and tired of running scared or having to hide who they are because so many people don't approve. It was my thought that the "Higher Powers" of this world only wish for us to love one another and to treat each other with respect. Beating the hell out of someone because they are in an intimate relationship with someone of the same sex is totally against what the Gods want us to be doing. I don't know what so many people are afraid of…it's not like it's contagious or anything…you're not going to shake hands with us and all of a sudden have homosexual tendencies. Please, let's stop the prejudice and violence.

Well, that's the end of my awareness page, for now of course. If there are any causes that you feel I should know about, please email me, and I will get something up here for it as soon as I can. Please make sure to send me a graphic and a URL for it's page to link it to. I will be adding a lot of links for all these "causes" of mine to my Links Page very soon once I get them all compiled and researched.

Until I get my links up and running, and since much of this page has to do with medicine, I have added a medical search engine for y'all to use. Thank you Jennifer for bringing it to my attention. And thank you to MedSite for inviting me to add their search engine to my site.
