The Majesty, the beauty,
So regal, so rare,
Of an eagle sailing...
Soaring in air.


Save me! Save me!
Said the eagle to the cloud.
Respect me. Protect me,
He said right out loud.
Some people were uncaring...
unseeing, unhearing.
They went right ahead
With their logging and clearing.
The eagle is dwindling
From many to few

Go to a ZOO!!!!


Eagle Facts
Common Name: Bald Eagle
Size:3 ft in height,7 ft wing span.
Adult males can weigh as much as 8-9 pounds, adult females can weigh as much as 10-14 pounds.
Adult eagles (at 4-5 yrs)can be identified by their white heads and tail, solid brown body, and large curved, yellow bill.
Juvenile eagles have blotchy patches of white on their underside and tail.
The average life span of an eagle in the wild is 30 years, longer for those in captivity.
Eagles live and nest near coastlines, rivers,lakes, wet prairies, and coastal pine lands
in North America, from Alaska and Canada, south into Florida and Baja, California.

Interesting Facts About Eagles

#1 The bald eagle isn't really bald. Actually it has white feathers on it's head, neck, and tail.
Bald is derived from Balde, an Old English word that means "white". Which means the eagle was actually named
for it's white feathers, not the lack of feathers.
#2 Bald eagles may use the same nest for many years, adding more twigs,and branches
each time. One nest was found that had been used for 34 years and it weighed in at over 2 tons!
#3 The bald eagle can fly at speeds up to 20 to 40 MPH in normal flight,
and can reach speeds of up to 100 MPH in a dive.
#4 Bald eagles can actually swim!!!
They use a stroke similar to our butterfly stroke.

DIET
Eagles prefer fish that are swimming near the water's surface,
small mammals, water fowl, wading birds, and dead animal matter (called carrion).
STATUS
The eagles is listed by the USFWS as threatened in all but three
of the lower 48 states, and is protected by CITES.
Populations are healthy in Alaska.



I dedicate this page to the strength and will power of the eagle. They have been pushed to the edge of extinction...but are fighting their way back!! Long may they fly in our hearts and in our skies!
