What is an American Eskimo Dog?...
American Eskimo dogs are white or cream colored dogs which come in standard, miniature and toy varieties. The standard variety ranges from 15" to 19" tall at the shoulder. The miniature variety ranges from 12" to 15" tall at the shoulder.
The toy variety ranges from 9" to 12" at the shoulder and is
recognized only by the AKC, not the UKC.
American Eskimo Dogs are often called "Spitz". In America, "Spitz" is not a breed of dog, but rather a group of breeds, like retriever or spaniel, with similar characteristics.
The preferred nickname for the breed is "Eskie". Other breeds included in the Spitz group of dogs are Keeshonden, Finnish Spitz, Japanese Spitz and Pomeranians. [Information copied from Heart Bandits]
