These are true stories of some of the special needs Rotties we have featured in the past. These Rotties have either recovered or are on the road to recovery. Their medical bills have been paid. Hopefully by making Rottweiler owners and the public aware of the neglect and abuse some of these rescues go through will help Rottweiler Rescues across the country.

If you would like to donate or volunteer to help the Rottweiler rescues who have saved these Rotties, please contact the Rottweiler rescue group or check the Rescue Links page for a Rottie Rescue in your area or state.

Thanks to all for helping these special needs Rotties!

Babe - Southern States Rottweiler Rescue

February 2000 - Babe is such a sweet girl that her foster mom has decided to keep her. Babe will spend the rest of her days greeting the new rescues coming in for foster care.

Babe the Burned was turned over by Animal Control with burns on her back, head and left side running under the leg. The burns are consistant with a hot cooking oil spill. Babe was also heartworm positive. The owners beliving she would die from the burns, left her tied outside...they were being evicited from the home and just left her. After a week neighbors heard her and called Animal Control. She was taken to a Vet who cleaned up her burns and commited the she was so good to have gone through what she did without turning ugly. The AC Officer who picked her up said she walked to the truck and jumped in as though she knew he was there to save her.

Kaela -- Wyoming, Michigan

August 9th, 1999--Kaela was adopted by Candy and Ed, from Mentor, OH.
Kaela will also have 3 feline "brothers"- Maxwell, Connor, and Mr. Kitty.

July 1999--A beautiful Rottweiler girl named Kaela was in her outdoor run with her mate and two new 2 week old puppies. A fire totally destroyed the house and garage of her owner. Kaela, the male and the two puppies were in a run that was attached to the garage. They couldn't escape the destruction. They pressed against the fence of the run to escape the flames. The dogs were finally released from their torture, but not before the puppies were dead. The poor male suffered injuries so severe that he had to be euthanized. Kaela's owners had just lost everything they had and couldn't afford the extremely large vet bill her recovery would incure, they told the vet to euthanize Kaela as well. Luckily for Kaela, she was at the Wyoming Animal Hospital; where Dr. Brian Rushlow and Dr. Linda Coffman realized the value of a great dogs' life. Instead of putting Kaela to sleep; they treated her for her injuries. In true Rottweiler fashion, Kaela started to heal in body and spirit. Despite her horrible, somewhat disfiguring wounds, Kaela retained her sweet, gentle nature. August 1999 - Kaela's wounds are healing nicely. There are still some raw spots, but they are much smaller now. .. and there is much hair regrowth!
Kaela's photos and original rescue story was written by Cheryl Reed. I have used excerpts from the original story here.

Sable -- Adopted-9/8/99
For 9 months Sable suffered with an eye condition called dermoid cyst, which was not properly treated by her former owners. When Sable first came to Recycled Rotts her eyes were infected and had to have several surgeries preformed. Luckily for Sable, with this surgery she will keep the eye they were concerned she might possibly loose, and she will have her eyesight.

Crosby---ADOPTED-July 19,1999
North East Rottweiler Rescue & Referral, Inc

Tue, 30 Mar 1999 - Crosby, a 2 year old male Rottweiler, was found wandering in the woods in western MA with hypotermia, malnutrition, and a broken leg from being hit by a car. After two surgeries to repair his shattered femur, Crosby still has a limp, but it will improve with time. Crosby has recently blown a cruciate ligament and this added to his vet bills. Crosby also suffers from vitaglio which is an immune deficiency - a result of his malnutrition and hypothermia. It is treatable and controllable with vitamins and vegetables, and he will likely recover. Vitaglio is not contageous, nor is it life threatening. However, Crosby's pigment in his nose, fur, eyes and nails is light. Although he is not a picture perfect rottweiler in looks, his temperament goes above & beyond in sweetness.

Mowgli -- Champaign County Rottweiler Rescue - Adopted!

Mowgli was adopted once, but came back to CCRR due to a divorce situation. Mowgli had no clue that he is "disabled" he runs faster than most 4 legged dogs!

Savannah --- ADOPTED 11/99

The Safe Haven, Inc.
Savannah has found a new home! She has a Rott'n brother that is also from The Safe Haven, Inc.!!

Savannah was found lying by the side of the road, she could barely move. Savannah’s Guardian Angel picked her up and took her to the vet. There, she was diagnosed as having pneumonia. After several days of treatment, Savannah was released. Three days later she has a relapse, and spent another ten days at the vet after the pneumonia went septic. Then...Savannah was playing with her rescue brothers and sisters in the snow-covered yard, fell and ruptured her cruciate ligament and had to have surgery to repair it.
