The number of visitors to the Rat Palace since the beginning of February 1998 is:

Hello!

Yes, it does say Rat Palace up there. If your immediate reaction was 'Urgh!' when you read that, we hope that by looking at the wonderful pictures of us and our friends in the Rat Palace Photo Gallery, we might change your mind.

We rats make perfect pets. We're clean, intelligent (so clever, in fact, that we've built this website all by ourselves), sociable, friendly little creatures who don't take up too much space, eat virtually anything and will genuinely love you. If we're preaching to the converted, we hope you enjoy the photos and the rest of our website. We could tell you all about how best to look after us rats, but our human friends have done a much better job of it than we could ever do in their pet rat information leaflet.

We live in fuchsia pink luxury in the Rat Palace. It's a detached, purpose-built, four-storey, split-level mansion with separate sleeping quarters and an exercise area. It is the same colour as that great London landmark, the Elephant and Castle shopping centre, used to be before killjoys painted it red for Comic Relief in 1999.

We love our house but we also like to explore the neighbourhood of our human's living room where we can go climbing up the bookshelves, run along the mantlepiece, make nests under the sofa and eat her furniture. We particularly like hiding inside the cushion covers and falling off the clothes drying rack. We also used to like visiting the Mongolian reed voles, the Gobi Girls, who lived upstairs. They were weird but really foxy! Sadly, they're all gone now but we have fond memories of them. Their glass condo was taken over by the Magnificent Seven Shubunkins.

Now for some fun! Rats have a great sense of humour and there are some fab things that we really like so come and see A Few of Our Favourite Things. We also like football and in the 1999-2000 season we had a fantasy football team called Lokomotiv Gobi. Our team for the 1998-99 season, Rat Palace Wednesday, came seventh out of a league of 37, so we were pretty chuffed! Unfortunately, Lokomotiv Gobi didn't do quite as well...

You can read about the steamy romance of Max and his ladyfriend in the boddice-ripping pot-boiler The Great Romance of Sir Maximillian and Lady Ethelyn. Phew, what a scorcher!

Life in the Rat Palace isn't all a bed of roses, though. Sometimes we have to face tragedy and despair when one of our friends dies and leaves us. You can read a sad story of someone who was going to come to The Rat Palace but met with a terrible accident in The Tragic Tale of Blackstaff Errol, or The Rat Who Was Just Too Curious. But we take comfort in the knowledge that The Death of Rats saw him to a happy place.

We hope you like our site. We have some links, webrings and listings if you want to explore the ratty world further. Please come back soon and visit us, and don't forget to read our guestbook!

Love and squeaks,
Basil, Frankie, Alfie, Max, Eric, George and Aubrey
