In memory of Dakota

(May 1997)

To all who "knew" Dakota, and to all who responded
with kindness:

Thank you all so VERY much. I DO miss the poor little sweetie. She meant so much to me. Only someone who has loved a little feathered  friend can know how much "spirit", and "attitude" and pure unconditional love and personality can dwell in these feathered bodies. I must believe that there will be animals in heaven, otherwise it wouldn't be heaven to me. I truly believe that there must be different "kinds" of heaven. Dakota and I watched the world thru the windows a lot, and I know she enjoyed life...GOOD GRIEF, how could she NOT?, she had ALL my attention for 4 1/2 years, ALL my concern, and we tried to LIVE life to the fullest even though we each had ailments that sometimes stood in our way. I know she is waiting for me. And I KNOW for a fact that the last six months were some of the happiest for her since we got the other birds for her to play with and torment. I also know they miss her because when I would give her medicine Tigger would fly to my head and try to "rescue" her. He spent all day trying to find her in her cage. So did Sam the cockatiel. So, since she always liked taking her friends back to her cage when she got tired, I washed and disinfected her cage and took all her toys that made it "hers" and removed them and put Pooh and Tiggers toys in and they are in there now. I'm sure she would approve since she was so sharing(except for with Grapenuts).

Sorry this is so long, but a little blue budgie in a Blue silk kimono and pink high heeled slippers with feathers around the toes is unpacking her bags in heaven tonight and taking out her white majorette boots with the tassels and her toothpick/coffee stirrer baton and getting ready to do one awesome performance of twirling, strutting, crawling thru toilet paper rolls, tossing lattice balls high, playing soccer and doing daring feats while hanging from greens. I am sure it will greatly amuse God.

Thanks

Mommy Birdy

She was special. Such a lotta attitude in such a micro body. She only weighed 29 grams but she had such a big heart. She was the budgie that showed me budgies DO smile!!! And it was such a special smile, her eyes got all "scrunchy" and twinkled. She always knew when I felt "down" an d would do ALL her antics just to make me laugh. She also taught me to deal with health problems by NOT GIVING UP!!!! She lived life to the fullest until the very end. I WILL sorely miss her.

The other birds that shared "her" room will miss her too. The squadron formation will fly without the "blue leader" from now on.

Thanks again

Mommy Birdy

Today the wind had a milder range,

And seems to hint of a secret change,

For the gossipy breezes bring to me

The delicate odor of buds to be,

In the gardens and groves of spring.
