On the Road
by Barbara Barrow
There is a low ridge of mountains that rises to the northeast
horizon of Highway 87 as you travel from Denver to Austin. It was
while looking at this elongated elevation, on a star-filled night recently,
that I learned how to get glimmers from the stars.
Barbara offers some personal insights into a woman's perspective of
being on the road
that are at times introspective, at times philosophical, and by all means
feminine. This particular night found us heading down the road toward
Texas.

A Storm is Brewing in the World of Classical Music
He was possessed by the devil, some said. He struck a powerful and terrifying figure in the world of gentile classical music lovers. His face seemed horrifying, pale and gaunt, and he did things with his compositions no one had done before.
Some also said that he learned to play in prison on one string while being held for murder...

Twisting in the Wind: a survival kit
Steve
Morse of the Boston Globe says that when Joe Ely
opened for Mary Chapin Carpenter July 10, this
"Texas honky tonker with the novelist's
heart seemed out of place in the early
twilight." As another writer Joan Anderman
has put it, "If 'Achy Breaky Heart"
is your idea of brilliant country music, you may
not appreciate Joe Ely." To be sure.
Nashville country artists and Joe Ely mix about
as well as water and oil. The two are about
entirely different purposes, from worlds that
really don't go to the same parties or speak to
one another.

In Part One of this three-part series distinguished songwriter panelists discuss what it was like before technological innovations became so prevalent, how their songwriting is intermingles with technology, the conflicts that technology can bring to their creative flow.

Warp's guestbook was visited in June by the following comments:
"This is an exceptional website. I have found the information about national scholarships very helpful. I also enjoy the articles
about artists that do not receive mainstream recognition and have bought several selections that were mentioned in your website
articles.. If you would be interested in publishing work from a young artist, mention something to that effect in your next publication. I hope to correspond with Warp Publications in the near future."
We appreciate comments like these and of course will gladly review any contributions submitted to us via email
or to our address at 44
