The Fanclub Needs Your Help!
The following is quoted from the December 1997 newsletter:
"We need to expand the fan club...We would like for all members to try and get at least one person to join the fan club this year.
Anyone you get to join should mention your name as the reason they are joining.
If you are an overseas member and you know of any country festivals that are coming up this summer, please let us know. We want to tour Europe again this year and have lost our contacts since we worked through Mervin Conn and he is out of the business."
.
I, like I have always done, highly encourage anyone who is not already a member to become a member of the Fanclub.  A yearly membership is only $12.00 and includes an autographed 8x10, a bumper sticker, and the highly informative newsletter.  If you do take my advice and join please mention my name, Jeff Womack also known as CoeFan, and this web site, David Allan Coe The Original Country Outlaw.

New Audio Book
David has recently recorded an audio book, another first for him!  After writing a new book a friend suggested that David record it, and he agreed.  Personal is mostly about his recent divorce with Jody Lynn and his childhood experiences and should provide us more ensite to this man who is so complex.  No word on when it will be available.

Songwriting Royalties
In the December 1997 issue of the Fan Club Newsletter, which you hopefully already receive, it was reported that all new songs written by David are now owned by David!  Due to past problems with the IRS, David had lost all of his rights to royalties to his classic hits.  This is great news for David!

Coe In Studio, Again!
David Allan Coe is once again in the studio recording his tribute album to Johnny Cash. No word on when it will be available. King Records is releasing this album, it is a follow-up to his Hank Williams tribute.

Country Weekly Magazine Does Article!

The September 2nd edition of Country Weekly has a three page article about our favorite artist! It is a great article with a lot of new info we didn't know about and some shots of inside his bus. The article mentions that he has a new book, This is...David Allan Coe, due out soon. Also mentioned is the October 2nd filming of a movie which he will star in with Willie Nelson. No details about the movie were available.

New Album In July!

As you may already know David recently recorded a brand new live album for Sony/Lucky Dog Records entitled, "IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY".
The album was recorded at the world famous Billy Bob's nightclub in Texas and will include 15 songs. The album is in final production and should be on local record store shelves within the next few weeks! This is the first major label release from David in a few years and it is important for all of us to rush out and buy it as soon as it comes out.

David Needs Your Help
If there is a night club in your area that seats 500 people or more and they bring in Country acts, contact the club owner or manager and tell them to bring David Allan Coe in! If they are interested in booking David, have them contact Bill Quisenberry at (615) 254-6999 and he will go over all the particulars with them.

Divorce, Part II
As reported earlier David and Jody are in the process of getting a divorce. If seems that David's female fans are applying to become the next Mrs. David Allan Coe. In the June edition of the fan club newsletter there is an article about all the women who have bombarded David with marriage offers! In the article David states that that he has no intention on taking a new mail-order bride anytime soon! A funny side note to this; apparently some of the letters have included nude pictures of the ladies!

Divorce

After 11 years of marriage, David and Jody Lynn have agreed to a divorce. Jody will keep the children and will no longer run the fan club and merchandising business. All the fan club members will miss her personal style in writing the newsletter.

New Record To Be Released April 22
TeeVee Records will release a 'new' record entitled, 20 Road Music Hits, on April 22. I do not know which songs will be included, but you can order it here.

Another Coe Song To Be Recorded
The Ride will be sung by John Anderson on an upcoming Hank Williams tribute album. Reportedly, David is not very happy that he was not asked to perform one of his biggest hits. On the other hand maybe it will bring in some new fans.

David Signs With
Lucky Dog / Sony Records
Sony Music has announced that they will give their Nashville division more independence from the corporate headquarters and will call this 'new' division, Lucky Dog Records. What does this mean to us? Well, David has recently finished recording his first live album ever, under the new Lucky Dog label. A release date has not been set yet, sorry. The album will have fifteen songs including:
Talkin' To The Blues

Jack Daniel's If You Please
Longhaired Redneck
Take This Job And Shove It

New Tattoos
David has decided to cover all his old tattoos (some were from his prison days) recently with the help of a tattoo artist named Squench from Jackson Mississippi. Although his old tattoos were beautiful works of art, Squench managed to create equally beautiful new masterpieces. According to the fan clun newsletter, this is part of David's letting go of the past and starting a new future!

X-Rated Albums Re-Released

From a flier sent out by the fan club:
"Due to recent bootleg versions of David Allan Coe's two X-rated albums being sold on CD's without David being paid and without his permission, David has decided to release 18 songs from the X-rated albums as a collector's item on D.A.C. Records. He will not agree to using his name on the records or to promote their sale and he has made them put on the CD that he will not perform any of these songs in public. The albums were made a long time ago and there are laws that put you in jail for singing those songs in public and David has already served all the time he cares to. We at the Fan Club have approached Bruce Smith at D.A.C. Records and made a deal with him to allow David's Fan Club member's a special price. The CD will sell at concerts for $50.00 and the cassettes for $30.00. Fan club members can order from us at the cost of $40.00+postage for CDs and $20.00+postage for the cassettes, you will be limited to 5 each per member. Therefore, if you have friends that want the CD or Cassette you can get the money from them and order all at once."
