ABOUT OUR FAMILY

We are the Bohonsuiks of Ottawa Canada. We are members of the Meadowlands Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. We attend the Assembly Hall in Aylmer, Quebec for our meetings. Quebec is on the opposite side of the Ottawa River. It is about a 20-minute drive from our home.

Our congregation has 105 publishers in the file and about 100-110 attend our meetings. We have about 12 different nationalities represented in our congregation. We really enjoy attending meetings at the Assembly Hall because there are five Kingdom Halls filled with the brothers. One congregation is French, one is Arabic, and three is English. Ten congregations meet at the Assembly Hall. It is like a mini-assembly after our meetings. Associating with the brothers of other languages is truly a blessing, helping us appreciate the true internationally of our unique brotherhood to Jehovah's praise and honor. Our lives revolve around our Creator, Jehovah God.

Ottawa is the Capital of Canada. It is also known as the Hi-Tech capital of the North, home to world renown companies such as: Nortel, JDS Uniphase, Corel and others. It has a system of government patterned after Great Britain complete with Changing of the Guard ceremony daily during the summer. Other than that it is typical of other government cities. We have the world's longest ice skating rink, over a hundred miles long. Ottawa is a very clean city filled with every nationality one can imagine.

In field service, we never know what language or nationality we will meet. It makes for a very interesting and enjoyable time in the ministry. Our congregations of course reflect this vast cultural variety. We all enjoy that very much.

This is our present family. Ed, Ruth and Edward (Teddy) at the Dayton, Ohio District Convention in June, 1997. Teddy was seventeen years old and had just been baptized in symbol of his dedication to Jehovah God to do his divine will.

RUTH

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was baptized in May 1959, and a member of the Avondale Congregation. I was a spiritual orphan. All of the friends cared for me and at times literally took me into their homes. I attended Abigail Cutter Jr. High School. While there in grade 8, I found the Truth. Brother Franz attended the same school many years earlier when it was named after Abigail's husband, Wm. Howard Taft. Brother Franz's older brother often delivered our Memorial talk at Avondale congregation.

I came to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1964 when I married Brother Haseeb Saikali, whom I had previously met at assemblies in Milwaukee, WI and NYC. He became very ill a month after our wedding with what doctors identified eleven years later as Huntington's Disease.   Haseeb died faithful to Jehovah 13 years after our marriage in May 1977. Jehovah provided great tender loving care through his Holy Spirit and our beautiful Christian brotherhood during this tremendous challenge in my life. My marriage resulted in a son Jeffrey, and a daughter, Erika (Rikki).

Two years later in October 1979, Jehovah gave me a special gift in the form of my dear husband, Ed Bohonsuik. He was a member of my congregation, Riverside, Ottawa. We have a son, Teddy, who will be twenty-four years old soon. We thoroughly enjoy camping as a family and having our spiritual family over for dinners and get-to-gethers. Often, we enjoy performing various theocratic skits for the friends in our home or when asked, at weddings and recreational events for the brothers.

My mother, Nan Head, at last became a Witness in 1985 in Cincinnati. My sisters eventually became Witnesses over the years. Their children and most grandchildren are also in the Truth. In 1994 we learned that we had Witness relatives in Virginia. An aunt and three cousins have been serving Jehovah for the past 15-25 years. We finally met in 1994 and we have visited them a number of times. What a joy! Jehovah has truly showered me with many blessings. He, my lifelong friend and Heavenly Father, has no equal.

My interests: Witnessing for my Creator, Bible research, writing poetry, etymology, learning Mandarin (Chinese), cooking, drawing, sewing (in the past) and of course, computers. I am a desktop publisher and I enjoy graphic design.  I do the advertising, marketing and office work for Ed's business, Karpet Kare Restoration Inc.  I love browsing in computer stores as much as I used to love fabric stores. I enjoy most kinds of music depending on my mood, from Mozart and Chopin, to Tony Bennett, Sade and Streisand to Patsy Cline, Charlie Pride, Chuck Berry and a host in between. In July, 1999, I began  learning to play the piano. You will find great links to free sheet music and instructional material on Ruth's Music Resource Page.

I hope you will enjoy my RECIPES, FREE web graphics, Entertaining Hints Page and other useful information.

ED

ED  was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada near Vancouver. He was a logger, and employed in the British Columbia Forest Service. He fought forest fires in helicopters and water bombers. He traveled across Canada alone, camping from BC to Newfoundland in 1967 during the Canadian Centennial. He ended up in Ottawa that year and landed a job in the Provincial Court. A brother worked in the office there. He and Ed used to walk to work for exercise. One day while walking to work, this brother, named Peter asked Ed to study the Bible. Ed agreed and as they say "the rest is history." He became a part of Riverside Congregation in Ottawa.

Ed has no family and the congregation adopted him. Ed became very involved in the Truth and a regular pioneer. He went into building in-ground swimming pools during the summer to support himself. He was appointed to Ministerial Servant. He had encouragement from the elders to go into Circuit work and this was his thinking. However, I suppose I am responsible for a turn of affairs in his life. We were married in October 1979. Of course seasonal work would no longer be adequate, so he learned carpet restoration from the brothers. Ed became self employed in the trade and formed Karpet Kare Restoration Inc.

The Truth is Ed's life. He has become a loving addition to my family in Cincinnati.

Ed has little interest in computers. However, he is also quite an authority on the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln and the American West. He enjoys Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella, Barbara Streisand, Julie London and many others.

We are celebrating our twenty-first wedding anniversary on October 20. Here is one of our wedding pictures on October 20, 1979.

JAMES

is in his twenty-fourth year. He was baptized in 1997 in Dayton, Ohio District Assembly. He enjoys the service and always has. It is characteristic for him to skillfully take a dignified stand for his beliefs whenever the situation calls for it. James was home-schooled for grades 8-9. He has a keen imagination that works non-stop. He loves jokes and riddles, the Hummer vehicle and The Robb Report. His summer job in 1999 was a parts technician at Capital Hummer, here in Ottawa. He is presently employed in the government of Canada. *2008 James is now 27 yrs old and married. UPDATE COMING SOON.

   KAZU - OUR FAMILY PET

Kazu is the name of our little Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu is a purebred dog from China.

Kazu is now in his 9th year. Yes, he is a little "senior citizen". He is such a joy to have in our family. He is very affectionate and loyal. He actually allows you to hug and kiss him as much as you want. He just contentedly allows it. He literally follows me from room to room as though he were my shadow. He is a wonderful companion and very bright.

You will see his picture on his webpage. We had just had his long, floor length luxurious coat trimmed for the summer. His coat is wool like and is very hot during the summer. It requires daily brushing to keep it from becoming matted.

Diane, his groomer cut it a bit too short but at least he is very cool. Except for his pushed in nose, he almost looks like a poodle in this shot. Please learn more about this wonderful pet at: Kazu.
