Melvins

NY NY at Noiseville
July 4, 1998 2-5 P.M.

There was an art show of different Melvins posters. Frank Kozik made a poster especially for this event. Of course the Melvins (just Dale And Buzz were there). I had a good time and I got to ask them questions. (Oh! Ah!)

I asked Dale about 1/24/88, the radioshack videos. At first he sounded excited, he asked me if I had a copy, I told him that I didn't. (I guess that he doesn't have a copy.) He said that the videos were taped the day after they recorded the demo (1/23/88). He said that this guy (from Radio Shack) asked if he could tape them and the band said yes. The guy setup a couple of tv's behind them. He said the one of the tv's was playing "Erasure" videos. He said that they did a couple of songs, but that he didn't remember which ones. He didn't say if the demo from the day before was overdubbed, but I got the impression from him that they setup and were recorded playing live. He said that they played a show on 1/23/88 and he said he thinks that it was taped. Again, he sounded like he didn't have a copy of it.

(Time for my opinion/overview: (12/14/87) vs.(1/23/88) 12/14/87 is available on cd and cassette at many places. I would think that Dale Crover would have a copy or would at least heard of it by now. (He said THINKS that 1/23/88 was taped but he wasn't sure.) So does that mean 1/23/88 is a different show? I don't know.)

I handed him a cassette. On it was the Fecal Matter Demo (which is now deteremined to be a fake), The unknown from Kaos, anorexorcist from Kaos and some other stuff. Dale was really, really nice. He said he would listen to the tape. I gave him a SASE so he could response. =)

I had so much more to ask him, but I didn't want to push him. He was very cool. If you were there, you would have flipped. It was the Melvins, me and my girlfriend , 3 fans, and the store owner. THAT'S IT! Like five fuckin people! Everyone was sitting around talking, eating chips. I almost walked right by the place cause everything was so down to earth. I thought the place would be mobbed.

The thing started at 2pm and Buzz left at 3pm. I was kinda pissed cause he was suppose to stay til 5pm. I had to chase him outside of the building to get his autograph. But oh well... Dale stayed though.

Later on, after a poster mess up with UPS, I went back to Noiseville. The owner (an extremely nice guy) told what happened with Buzz. Apparently he was excited for this show. As many Melvins fans know, Buzz's wife is an artist. She did a couple of their album covers for them. So Buzz sent artwork, his collection of posters, and other stuff (a skate board!). It never arrived on time. To make matters worse, the poster made for the show didn't make it either. He was bummed cause he wanted some copies of the poster to give to people. So he left early.
