The Woman I am

My grandmother taught me how
to be a lady.
She taught me style & grace,
in her eyes,
everything had its time & place.
She taught me about culture
& good etiquette
& no matter how tough things got
never live life on regrets.
Smile, yet ignore people
that appear too shady,
because indeed you are a lady.
All of these attributes
I thank for they have
shaped me into the Woman I Am.
My mother taught me about reality
& the true meaning of life,
that it's definitely not easy
& in time you will endure strife.
She showed me how to deal
with early motherhood & explained
that now there was no turning back.
Despite her being
& a single mother,
she always kept me on the right track.
My mother, my confidant,
& my best friend,
cause she was there in times
when I thought I was near the end.
She taught me feminity
& true fashion
& how to give love
& show compassion.
These attributes
I also thank
for they have shaped me
into the Woman I Am.
My grandmother
& mother-two women
I highly regard
who live life to its fullest,
despite obstacles that are often hard.
Strength & self sufficient
were adjectives that they both taught
which led me to be independent
& these attributes
I greatly thank for
they have truly shaped me
into the Woman I Am
