Common Symptoms Prior To And After Diagnosis
*** "The MS Mystery"
***
Written by: Kim Levinson/TheForum
** Muscle spasms; (spasticity) Painful muscle spasms in varying parts
of the body. At times in one or more of the outer limbs; such as the
>arms, hands, or legs. Commonly effected with spasm are the lower part of the
spine, the tailbone and legs. See also in this listing of symptoms
Lower back pain at the following URL:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/spasticitymuscle.html
** Shock like sensations; that begin at the base of the brain stem,
shooting down the spine, sometimes continuing all the way down into
the leg. See "Lhermitte's Sign" in the literature search section available
at the following URL:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/lhermittesign.html
** Tingling Pins and needles; Like sensation in one or more limbs.
Most notable running up and down the spine and in the feet.
** Fatigue: Either mild or to the extreme of complete exhaustion. May
be accompanied by a feeling of heaviness. The usual task of normal day to
day activities which once came with ease now seem associated with a
general feeling of fatigue, tiredness and muscle weakness. Additional
information in the literature search section available on "fatigue and MS".
at the following URL:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/Fatigue.html
** Lower back pain: The type of lower back pain usually associated as
a symptom of MS is usually described as a pulled or stressed muscle in
the lower back. It can be very painful and is often mistaken for being
either a pulled muscle and or a herniated disc.
** Neck pain; Stiffness, pain at the base of the brain stem, or a
general feeling of having a pulled muscle in the neck area.
** Pain in either temple: A jabbing pain in the region of the temple
on either side of the face. See literature search on "trigeminal
neuralgia". At the following URL:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/trigeminalneur.html
** Migraine Headaches: Migraines lastings a short time, sometimes days
or on a chronic persistent level. Additional information in the
literature search section available on "migraines and MS".
At the following URL:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/migraineheadache.html
** Visual disturbances: Involuntary rapid eye movement, blurred or
double vision, temporary loss of sight in one or both eyes. (Literature
search information available on visual disturbances and optic neuritis).
At the following URLS:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/VisualDisturbances.html
http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/opticneuritis.html
** Bladder dysfunction: Urinary incontinence, (loss of bladder
control) or urinary urgency or frequency, (a constant sensation of having to
void/urinate with only minor amounts of urine to pass).
Additional information in the literature search section available on
"urinary dysfunction". At the following URLS:http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/urinaryabnomalities.html

** Bowel dysfunction: Chronic constipation or diarrhea, due to lack of
proper nerve conduction that control the muscles for proper bowel
function to occur. At the following URL:
http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/constipation.html
**Motor instability: lack of coordination, balance, tremors, sometimes
with gait offset.
** Dizziness: Light headedness, fainting for no apparent reason,
feeling of the ground appearing to move out from under your feet as you walk with
yoursense of depth perception possible very distorted.
** Cognitive dysfunction: Usually presenting itself in the earlier
stages of progression and carried on throughout to the chronic progressive
stage of MS. This symptom is variable in its debilitating effects on the MS
patients. Yet this is one symptom that is considered one of the more
debilitating symptoms or comorbid aspects of this disease. More
information available on cognitive dysfunction in the literature search section.
At the following URL:
http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/CognitiveDysfunc.html
** Speech dysfunction: Slurred speech, lack of short term recall
causing staggered and incomplete dialogue, mispronunciation of words and
reversing of consonants that had typically come with ease prior to the onset of
this particular symptom. At the following URL:
http://www.MSRevealed.org/MS/References/speechdysfunction.html
** Auditory dysfunction: Processing of sounds, words sounding garbled
or difficult to understand. Sounds and motion do not synchonize in a
patient who is experiencing autitory dysfunction. What may not be preceived as
excessive noise to one who does not have MS, may be too overwhelming,
and be too much stimulus to process for the MS patient. This particular
symptom is most noticeable when the MS patient is fatigued. However it does
occur on again off again at will. At the following URL:
