Maggie tightly closed her eyes, trying to lock out the painful words which were fillin her ears like a poison. She stopped the car, fumbling to shut of the radio, trying tp stop the words, the words which were echoing through her brain over and over without end. Notorious A-Team...........moments ago......executed.......Colonel John Hannibal Smith.......dead. A single tear fell and splashed against the steering wheel. *I am not going to cry* she told herself silenty. *I am not going to cry* She started the cry again, trying to focus on the road, trying to forget what had happened. He was dead. Gone. Forever. She pulled into the driveway and stepped out of the car, walling lamely up to her front door. Pulling out her keys, she unlocked the door, walking into the dark interior of her house. He was there, wasn't he? He had taken over this house, the same way that he had found away into and taken over her heart. He was everywhere- in the cigar butts in the fireplace, the shaving cream in her bathroom, the bottle of wine still sitting on her countertop. She slowly walked through the rooms, letting a few tears fall to the floor everywhere she passed. She sat down on the side of her bed. His bed. Theirbed. "I didn't need him." The words echoed silently through the house and settled down to the carpet like dust. Somehow, she had expected them to be more comforting. But in her heart, she knew it was a lie. She needed him, needed him now, more than he would ever know. "I didn't need him." The words echoed silently through the house and settled down to the carpet like dust. Somehow, she had expected them to be more comforting. But in her heart, she knew it was a lie. She needed him, needed him now, more than he would ever know. ********************************************* Laying down on the bed, she started to cry, slowly at first, but finally wailing into her pillow. It smelled like him. Everything in her bedroom did. All of her memories were trapped in this room, in this house. Every night she had lain awake watching him sleep. Every morning the she had woken in his arms. Every dinner, every touch, every kiss they had ever shared were locked in her mind. She wanted to forget them, to forget him, to go back to living the life that she had lived before that fateful day they met. As she cried, she slowly fell into an unrestful sleep.* * * "Stop that Margret! I won't have you blubbering in here like some idiot schoolgirl. Now you stop that right now." "I can't momma. I loved him...." Maggie buried her face in her pillow, trying to avoid the face of her scornful mother. "No you didn't Margret. Now stop all this wailing for that silly boy. Now what have I taught you Margret? Hmm? You don't need a man Margret, you are going to be able to take care of yourself, I am going to see to that." "But I loved Bobby...." "Little Miss, you are fourteen now, not four. No more blubbering about this 'Bobby'""But I loved him............"* * * When Maggie awoke, darkness had already fallen. The remains of the dream still hung loosely in her mind. But how could the little boy who had left her for another girl when she was fourteen compare to the loss of Hannibal? She got up and walked through the house, holding her pounding head in her hands. He was gone. Dead. Forever. Slowly she made her way past her front door, where she stopped to pick up the few letters on the floow beside the mail slot. On top was a small envelope, addressed to her in precise, neat handwriting. Maggie slowly eased herself to the ground, trying to keep herself from fainting. Her heart pounded as she opened the envelope and eased out the thin piece of paper.*My Darling, By the time you read this, I will already be gone. It doesn't look like I have much of a chance of getting out of this one. I.... I just wanted you to know that I love you Maggie. I realized it, but I realized it too late. All my life I have been waiting for the one woman to spend the rest of my life with, and I never realized that I already had her until my life was over.* A tear fell from Maggies eye and stained the thin piece of paper. She felt a bump in the envelope and slowly poured the rest of the contents into her hand. A tear fell from Maggies eye and stained the thin piece of paper. She felt a bump in the envelope and slowly poured the rest of the contents into her hand. ****************************************************************************** ***************** *I waited for almost five years to give this to you. Now I realize that the perfect time will never come. I want you to have this Maggie. My father give it to my mother when they were first engaged, and when she died, she told me to give it to the woman who I truly loved. You are that woman Maggie, and you always will be.* The ring that had fallen into Maggies hand was a simple, gold band. But it was the most beautiful piece of jewerly that she had ever seen. She struggled to read the inscription through the tears which were streaming down her face. From John to Catherine, May 1, 1930. Je donne ma coeur a toi. Maggie slipped the ring over her finger and let the tears run down her face. Slowly she leaned down to kiss the ring, then looking back up, she whispered softly."I love you." She got back up, and walked slowly back to the bed room. She back down on the sheets. Her tears had dried up. The words on the radio flashed back through her mind. He wasn't gone. He was there. Right there, in her heart. She got back up, and walked slowly back to the bed room. She back down on the sheets. Her tears had dried up. The words on the radio flashed back through her mind. He wasn't gone. He was there. Right there, in her heart. ***************************************************************** It was almost midnight when he walked up the steps to her front porch, trying to enter the house without waking her. Slowly he made his way through her house, the house that had become a second home to him after several years of seeing her. She was like a godess, a religion that he worshiped and put all his faith in. She was the vision which had kept him going all these years, the only thing he had looked forward to upon returning from a mission. Hannibal entered the bedroom slowly, half-expecting to see another man asleep at her side. Her knelt down at her bedside, part of him wanting to waken her, to hold her in his arms again, make sure that he really was alive and she wasn't just an angel. But another side of him told him to remain still, to watch her sleep knowing that soon, very soon, they might be together forever. He brushed the side of her face with the back of his hand, smiling softly at her beautiful features, relaxed in sleep. He then reached under the thin sheet she was covered by untill he found one of her tiny hands. Taking it in his, he kissed it slowly. It was then that he noticed the ring, his ring, that she was wearing on her finger. He smiled, his eyes beginning to tear with joy. He reached down and kissed the ring, whispering, 'I gave my heart to you a long time ago. I just never told you 'till now.
