The Elevator

By: Emily

Amy and Brad stepped on to the elevator of South Bay General Hospital. The door closed behind them and Amy pressed the button for the 5th floor.

"Amy, why do we have to do this?" Brad asked.

"Because, Sean is my destiny. I have to see him."

"He’s in a coma because of your little stunt at the Shock Wave."

"You can’t blame me because that beam feel."

"Right over Emily? Come on Amy, get over Sean. He doesn’t love you. He’s in love with Emily."

The elevator suddenly stops and the lights start to flash on and off until the emergency lights come on. Brad and Amy stand there looking at each other.

"That wasn’t good." Amy said.

"Well of course it was." Brad said semi-sarcastically.

"Great I’m stuck with doughnut boy." She muttered.

"I resent that!" Brad exclaimed.

"Shove a doughnut in your mouth and shut up!"

"I don’t know why I ever for the life of me listened to you and went along with your hair-brained schemes!"

"Why do you go along with my plans?"

Brad looked at her. He knew he couldn’t tell her it was because he was in love with her. "I don’t know." He finally said softly and then retreated to the corner.

Amy watched as he walked to the corner saddened.

"Brad, what’s wrong?"

"Nothing." He snapped.

"Oh, okay." Amy said as she went and sat down in the corner on the opposite side of the elevator.

After only 10 minutes Amy stood up and looked at Brad. "Tell me!" She yelled.

Brad looked up at her and asked, "Tell you what?"

"Tell me, why you go along with my schemes? I know it’s not because you want Emily. That’s Leo’s department."

"Then team up with him!" Brad said as he looked up at her.

"Maybe I will." She said and sunk back down to her seat.

Brad stood up and looked down at her, "You’d never do that. You want to know why?"

"Why!?"

"Because, you see Leo thinks you’re the scum of the earth. I myself don’t. You—you’re this enchanting being that takes my breath away. My heart pounds when I see you smile. I want to hold you when you cry." Brad said as his voice went from pain and anger to love and affection.

"What?" Amy asked flabbergasted.

"Nothing." Brad said quickly trying to cover his pain and fear of rejection.

"Oh." She said softly, suddenly realizing that Brad was afraid—and human.

Sittin’ in my room starin’ at the ceilin’ Nothing I do can’t shake this feelin’ What have you done to me I never thought I would be Sittin’ in my room starin’ at the ceilin’ I wish I could say that I’m doin’ fine But I can’t seem to get you off my mind

Brad sat there tapping his fingers on his knees as he reflected on what had happened. He had just told Amy almost every feeling he had for her. Of course she was shocked and other than that had no reaction.

Can you hear me thinking ‘bout you With all my heart I’ve been trying to Send you my love just in case it’s true You feel the same way that I do

Amy cautiously looked at Brad. She softly bit her lower lip as her mind was racing with what he had just said. Yet, he hadn’t said he loved her. Basically all he had told her was he wanted to be there for her. Being there for her? If she wanted that, she would have gotten a dog along, long time ago.

I close my eyes praying for the power Then my heart starts beating A million miles an hour Until the message is loud and clear Well baby, I’ll be right here Closing my eyes praying for the power I only hope I can get it right And find my way into your dreams tonight.

Why? Why, couldn’t Amy love him in return. Was all Brad’s surf and sun soaked mind could ask.

Can you hear me thinking ‘bout you With all my heart I’ve been trying to Send you my love just in case it’s true You feel the same way that I do

Amy stood up and glared down at Brad. After a moment of not knowing what to say she sat back down again—embarrassed.

Can you hear me wishin’ I was All you’ve ever been dreamin’ of I know that I will And I’m willing because This feeling I feel must be true Can you hear me thinking ‘bout you

"Damn it Amy!" Brad yelled.

She looked up at him froze from shock. "What?" She finally said.

"You, just don’t see what’s in front of your eyes!" he exclaimed and turned to look at the doors.

I toss and turn I breathe and burn For one kiss I’ll go on Right or wrong ‘Cause I belong Wherever he is

"What the hell are you talking about?" She asked him.

He turned back to look at her.

"You’re oblivious!" he yelled back at her and then pulled her in his arms and kissed her.

Can you hear me thinking ‘bout you With all my heart I’ve been trying to Send you my love just in case it’s true You feel the same way that I do

At first Amy was in shock, it’s not like she had ever expected Brad to kiss her. But as the shock wore of she wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed him back.

Amy and Brad stood there kissing each other. When Amy pulled away, Brad was stiff, he was afraid she would slap him.

Amy looked at him and gave him a shy smile. "Um…I’m sorry I kissed you back, That was such a silly thing for me to do." She said, though in the pit of her stomach she knew she was lying.

"Well it’s really my fault, I’m the one who instigated the kiss." He said, feeling his heart breaking.

"Well, let’s just pretend it never happened." She said hiding her pain.

"I can’t!" He exclaimed, allowing the frustration within him explode. "Don’t you see Amy?"

"See what? The fact that you’re in love with me, while here I am in love with you." She said and then froze realizing what she had just said.

"In love with, me?" He asked amazed.

"Yeah." She said softly, "Is it that much of a surprise?"

"Um… well yeah, Amy for as long as you and I have known each other you’ve been after Sean."

"Can we just call that a stupid, stupid mistake. I mean think about it. Sean Richards isn’t my type."

"Then what is your type?" He asked just slightly confused.

"Lifeguards with dark hair, a nice tan, and who likes Chocolate Doughnuts." She said as a small, shy smile crossed her lips.

"Ya know what?" He asked as he walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist, "I think I know just the guy for you."

"Oh you do, do you?" She asked as she put her hands on his shoulders.

"Yeah." He whispered and leaned down and kissed her lips softly.

As Amy and Brad were kissing again the Elevator lights flashed and it started to move until it stopped and the doors opened.

Everyone who was waiting outside, gasped when they saw the embrace. Bette who saw this muttered to herself, "They’ll never believe this in my column, unless they saw it."

Brad and Amy ignored the on lookers and enjoyed there kiss.
